Kansas City Chiefs-George Karlaftis Agree On 4-Year Contract

George Karlaftis

The Kansas City Chiefs and Defensive End George Karlaftis reached an agreement on a four-year $93 million contract with $62 million guaranteed. Karlaftis posted 24.5 sacks during his first three seasons in Kansas City. He will continue as a focal point of the Chiefs’ defense.

George Karlaftis and the Chiefs Sign Massive Contract

George Karlaftis was the 30th overall pick in 2022 and has started 53 of the 59 regular season and playoff games. He has 115 tackles, 24.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in the regular season. He has 8 postseason sacks, including four in three during last year’s playoffs. Karlaftis will now be the center of the Chiefs’ defense this season.

In 2022, George Karlaftis became the 19th player in franchise history to start all regular season games in their rookie season. Karlaftis joined Center Creed Humphrey and Guard Trey Smith to be the first three to start 17 games in their rookie season since the NFL added a 17th regular season game in 2021. Karlaftis recorded double-digit sacks (10.5) in 2023, tying with Defensive Tackle Chris Jones for the most on the defense.

Final Thoughts

The Chiefs also signed Guard Trey Smith to a new contract last week. The Chiefs will report to training camp on Monday. The Kansas City Chiefs will play their first preseason game on August 9 against the Arizona Cardinals and will begin the NFL regular season on September 5 against NFC West rival Los Angeles Chargers.
