Freddie Freeman Receives Warm Welcome in Atlanta

A .285 Batting Average is Great for Most But Not Freddie Freeman

In some cases, when a player leaves a team after being a crucial part of it for years on end, the fans may hold elements of disdain towards them. For Freddie Freeman, this is not the case. Freeman may be gone, but he has certainly not been forgotten by Atlanta.

Freeman was welcomed with open arms as he returned to Atlanta for the first time this year. A Braves legend, Freeman made a lasting impact on both the organization and the fanbase itself. In his return to Truist Park, he was overcome with applause as he stepped up to the plate.

In the top of the first inning, two outs on the board, Freeman made his way to the plate. As he approached the box, the crowd began to roar as they cheered for their former World Series champion. Freeman soaking it in, tips his helmet to acknowledge the fans and take in the heartwarming moment. Not a single fan was sitting as they joined in solidarity to honor their beloved former star.

This moment took place in the first of a three-game series as the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Atlanta Braves. The game ended with the Braves winning 6-2. Freeman ended the game going 0-of-3 at the plate with one strikeout and one walk.

Freeman’s Time In Atlanta

The warm welcome from the fans was sure to mean a lot to the former Brave as he spent the first 12 years of his career there. His impact on Atlanta was unparalleled. Notably, he helped lead the team to a World Series in 2021. This was their first World Series win since 1995. He became a five-time All-Star as a Brave while winning a National League MVP award.

The future Hall of Famer left the Braves organization in 2022 when he signed a six-year deal with the Dodgers. A shocking move that left many stunned, his time with Atlanta had come to a bitter end. Despite his unforeseen move, Braves fans will always appreciate his impact on their team.

Freeman with the Dodgers

Freeman has had an incredible impact on Los Angeles in his short time there. Debuting with Los Angeles in 2022, he has had a consistent batting average of around .300 and an OPS in the .900 range. This season, Freeman is slashing .280/.379/.478. In all of his years with the Dodgers, he has been an All-Star in each of them.

This season has posed some personal challenges for Freeman. Towards the end of July, Freeman’s son, Max was hospitalized as he was dealing with a rare neurological disorder called Guillain-Barré syndrome. Freeman took time away from the game to be with his son.

Ahead of the first game of the series on Friday, the Braves presented Freeman and his wife, Chelsea, with a donation in Max’s name to a foundation geared towards the disorder. The donation was presented by Manager, Brian Snitker, and Braves President & CEO, Derek Schiller. Freeman’s Impact on the Braves organization will live on as he shifts his focus to making the same lasting impression on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
