San Diego Padres Right Fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. leads MLB.com’s National League MVP rankings a little more than a month into the 2025 regular season. While his numbers are not eye-popping, he has been a solid offensive player this season. He is eighth in batting average and ninth in OPS.
This start for Tatis Jr. has been important as his last few seasons have been plagued by injuries and a PED suspension. He has also been a solid defender. He is fifth in DWAR among right fielders. He is also third in the league in WAR. Will Tatis Jr. be able to maintain his stellar level of play?

The San Diego Padres right fielder is ahead of New York Mets First Baseman Pete Alonso, Los Angeles Dodgers Designated Hitter Shohei Ohtani, Right Fielder Kyle Tucker, and Arizona Diamondbacks Right Fielder Corbin Carroll.
It is a stacked National League field Tatis Jr. is leading. He has accomplished a great deal during his career in Major League Baseball. He finished a career-best third in National League MVP voting in 2022. He finished behind Bryce Harper and Juan Soto respectively that season in MVP voting.
Final Thoughts
While Tatis Jr. is leading the NL MVP race at this moment, there is still a 120+ games remaining in the regular season. As baseball fans know, the season is a marathon not sprint. The Padres superstar will look to keep it going as he faces the New York Yankees this evening.
