The Friedkin Group announced Friday it is exploring investment options and a potential sale of Everton, less than two years after the Texas-based ownership group took control of the Premier League club. The announcement, made Oct. 9, 2026, includes the possibility of selling a controlling interest in the club, according to FOX Sports.
The move marks a sharp turn for a group that took over Everton in December 2024, ending Farhad Moshiri’s eight-year ownership and stepping in after a prior takeover attempt by Miami-based 777 Partners had collapsed.
Everton Sale: Friedkin Group Looking To Move On
The Friedkin Group, led by American billionaire Dan Friedkin, said it would weigh offers but set conditions on who it would engage with. In a statement, the group said, “We will only entertain interest from parties who we strongly believe will be the right stewards to take the club forward and build on the momentum that has been established.”
The Friedkin Group completed its purchase of Everton in December 2024, taking a 94.1% stake from Moshiri. The group has since overseen the club’s move from Goodison Park to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
What It Means For Everton
When the Friedkin Group arrived, Everton faced significant financial uncertainty along with challenges on and off the pitch. The ownership group has described its immediate priority as providing stability, investment and support to secure the club’s future and help complete the long-promised stadium project.
Any sale of a controlling interest would represent the second change of ownership at Everton in under two years, following the turbulence of the Moshiri era and the failed 777 Partners bid.
What’s Next
The Friedkin Group has not announced a timeline or named any potential buyers. The group said it will vet prospective new owners based on whether they can serve as the right stewards to build on the club’s momentum.
