Atlanta Hawks Guard Dyson Daniels was named the 2024-25 NBA Most Improved Player of the Year Wednesday night. He received 44 first-place votes and bested Detroit Pistons Point Guard Cade Cunningham and Los Angeles Clippers Center Ivica Zubac for the prestigious award. What led to the Hawks star taking home this award?
Dyson Daniels Season Summary
The performance of Daniels this season for the Atlanta Hawks was a revelation. He raised his points per game from 5.8 to 14.1 from year to year. The guard also finished as one of the finalists for Defensive Player of the Year. His performance on that end of the floor led to him being named the MIP as well.
Daniels led the league in steals by a wide margin during the regular season. Even though the Atlanta Hawks lost in the NBA Play-In Tournament, he helped the team get to that round this year.
Final Thoughts
Even though Daniels was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player for the 2024-25 regular season, his offense still needs to improve. He averaged only 9 points per game on 38% shooting from the field in the team’s two play-in games. His lack of offensive prowess hurt their team in their OT loss against the Miami Heat. He struggled down the stretch as the Hawks saw their playoff chances fall by the wayside. The guard will look to take another leap this offseason heading into the 2025-26 season.
