Diary of a Yankees fan #20. Yankees are Called out From Inside the Organization.

Diary of a Yankees fan: Core Jackson, a Yankees minor leaguer, was on a podcast with former Yankee Erik Kraatz. There, he said he was a fan of the Brewers’ and Rays’ style of play, and then he went on to say some other things. One way to tell if an organization has problems is if players from the farm system critique the way the organization is teaching them. That is exactly what happened.

Things just keep getting worse for the Yankees, diary of a Yankees fan. Former players, including Hall of Famers and World Champions, have criticised the team. So has a former manager. So have current broadcasters. The Captain of the team urged the front office to “go all in.” Now we have an active player in the system. Do you think Core Jackson will be traded now?

The Yankees are in big trouble. They have become a punchline for World Series winners; they are criticized by former players, managers, and the Captain of the team. Nevertheless, it looks like if there is a season in 2027, the team will be just about the same. Here is what Core Jackson said.

Core Jackson Statements

He said he is a fan of the way the Brewers and the Rays, the two World Series participants. He suggested that if a team is looking to put the ball in play and execute the little things, that should be taught in the organization. There were few home runs hit in this World Series; these teams emphasize on-base percentage. That is not the approach of the Yankees,m diary of a Yankees fan, as we know.

So, this is what he said: “The Brewers and the Rays, the way they played is the way how I grew up knowing how to play, and was taught how to play. You have your home runs, but it’s line drives in gaps, backside singles, getting it done with two strikes. I would love to see the game go back to that, but I think it’s turning into more power.” Jackson was born in 2003, if the reader can believe that, in Canada, no less. The way he was just taught, and the way almost all youngsters are taught, emphasizes the exact opposite of the style of play desired by the Yankees.

Core Jackson did not mean to criticize the team, but he did in an offhand sort of way. The Yankees’ organization emphasizes hitting home runs; striking out is fine. This all-or-nothing approach de-emphasizes getting on base, moving runners, and sacrificing oneself. This is, by the way, exactly the approach taken by the two teams that played in the World Series. The big home-run-hitting teams, like the Yankees and Dodgers, were eliminated. The Mets, another high-payroll home run-hitting team, did not even make the playoffs. Diary of a Yankees fan, this is a worrisome thing.

As we head to a potential work stoppage, the collective bargaining agreement is going to expire in almost exactly one month; the results from the 2026 season are troubling. It just so happens that the Mets, Dodgers, and Yankees are the top three teams in terms of payroll. The Brewers, who won the World Series, have the lowest payroll in baseball. There could be a lockout, and the recent results cast a shadow on the notion that a team needs a high payroll to compete.

Conclusion: Deaf Leadership

When one listened to general manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone giving their season post-mortem, there is one reaction to what they said. They appeared tone-deaf. Oblivious to the criticism the team has received. Diary of a Yankees fan: now you have a current organization, a minor leaguer, criticizing the team. One must wonder if they will ever listen.
