The Colorado Buffaloes football script flipped after their devastating performance and loss against Nebraska this week. Many fans called out Coach Deion “Prime” Sanders and his son Shedeur for behavior that revealed their true colors. One of these notorious reports includes Deion Sanders commanding the University of Colorado marching band not to play the fight song when Shedeur scores but to play “Perfect Timing,” his very own rap song. However, Coach Prime later refuted these claims as “idiotic” and confirmed they were false. All of the drama surrounding the Buffaloes this season is a distraction from the sport itself. Still, the Buffs have a chance of redemption against the Colorado State Rams this weekend on Saturday, September 14th.
Coach Prime Addresses Accusations Regarding Shedeur Sanders
Many fans took to social media to express their frustration regarding the decision to play Shedeur’s song.
A year later and the offensive line still doesn’t fight for each other. A year later and the fight song doesn’t even play in the stadium after the quarterback throws a touchdown. Deion Sanders told the band they couldn’t play if his son Shedeur Sanders scores a touchdown so that the loudspeaker can play a recording of his son’s song ‘Perfect Timing,’ Jake Shapiro, the Colorado Buffaloes beat reporter for the Denver Post, wrote Saturday night.
I noticed the CU band did not play after TD’s against NDSU……..STOP PLAYING TRAP MUSIC THIS IS NOT THE NFL….also Deion, you’re dumb,
This season across the board bands are getting shafted for canned music. The entire war chant decision at FSU, this, and a general decline among band playing time. As a current band member, it’s really sad because we’re such a big and focal point of CFB (including almost all CFB marketing on television relies on drumline/marching music or has a band theme) and campus atmosphere. Also related, a lot of bands are getting less funding than they already were. It’s truly sad, another explained.
On that note, Prime clarified that these allegations were not valid. The Buffs played “Perfect Timing” briefly after his touchdown pass against Nebraska before the band played the fight song.
Whoever reported that I told the band not to play the fight song, that’s idiotic. Y’all know that. He stated.
Do The Colorado Buffaloes Face Misinformation or Fair Criticism?
Furthermore, Prime took to social media to express his dissatisfaction with journalists spreading misinformation that hurts the perception of CU.
What happened to Accountability for lies told and consequently sold… A lie don’t care who tells it & only a fool can fool a fool but the Wise is Prudent.
Deion handled what some people criticized Shedeur for, stepping off the field early before the tradition of a handshake after the game. He claimed Shedeur left for an injury—a targeting helmet hit late in the game. However, some fans noted that the severity of the hit would not be enough for the average football player with Shedeur’s level of experience to walk off the field. Instead, they believe Shedeur is a bad sport.
We gotta to start having some kind of accountability to this, Prime said. I understand that this is a free and open world, that everybody is not a journalist. Everybody is not an analyst. Everybody really hasn’t put in a lot of work to do what you all do. I’m thankful for many of y’all that take your job and your craft serious, and consequently you get facts before you run with false narratives. But please know that stuff affects people.
Conclusion
Whatever the narrative is true, many Colorado football fans do not like how Sanders and Shedeur have acted. Many have noted that they make promises but do not walk the talk—developing the run game. Maybe Prime is correct that some of what people are saying is not fair, but there are many criticisms that Prime has not addressed that could cost them many more wins. Developing the run game might help.
The Buffs get a chance at redemption in Fort Collins, Colorado this weekend. People can change for the better throughout their lives — not to disrespect Prime. There’s still someone humble enough to be one of the greatest cornerbacks of all time employed as the head coach for CU. NCAA football culture as a whole is as alive as ever.
