David Perron signed a one-year, $850,000 contract with the Dallas Stars on Friday, the team announced, giving the 38-year-old winger his 20th NHL season. The deal comes more than three months after Perron became an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Dallas general manager Jim Nill called the signing a way to add proven playoff experience. “We are excited to welcome David and his family to the Stars organization,” Nill said in a statement. “He brings a competitive mindset and a proven ability to perform in big moments. We believe his veteran leadership and skill set will be a valuable addition to our group as we continue to build toward our goal of winning a Stanley Cup.”
What The Signing Means For Dallas
The addition comes as Dallas prepares to play without forward Matt Duchene for three months because of core muscle surgery. Perron, who has 110 career Stanley Cup playoff games, adds veteran experience and forward depth while the Stars work toward a championship.
Perron’s Career And Recent Production
Perron split last season between Ottawa and Detroit, finishing with 28 points on 13 goals and 15 assists across 65 games. He was traded to the Red Wings on March 5 and scored three goals in 16 games with his new club down the stretch.
For his career, Perron has totaled 812 points on 332 goals and 480 assists in 1,239 regular-season games with the Blues, Oilers, Penguins, Ducks, Golden Knights, Red Wings and Senators. He has added 64 points on 26 goals and 38 assists in 110 career Stanley Cup playoff games.
The Blues selected Perron in the first round, 26th overall, in the 2007 NHL Draft. He won the Stanley Cup with St. Louis in 2019.
