Cora Ejection Propels Red Sox To Win Back-To-Back

Red Sox Nation is going after one of their own.

With Alex Cora ejected writhing on the infield within the first hour of a set doubleheader today, the Red Sox came out shining. Is Alex Cora the block the Red Sox have been facing all year? It appears they have succeeded today without Cora’s help in the stadium.  Breathing down the necks of the Minnesota Twins, Boston is in a must-win position, and they sure looked good today.

Ejection Propable Blessing For Red Sox

The Red Sox need a miracle. They are facing the end of their season, and if they want a chance to take it further than September, they need Ws.  With less than a four percent chance to make it to the playoffs, the AL opponents list feels longer daily. Facing the Twins in a doubleheader today, one of the teams ahead of Boston in the wildcard race, they took home the Ws. One can’t help but think, with Cora off their backs, have they found a spark to stay alive?

Cora was loyal to today’s call in a ruckus between the second base and the pitcher’s mound. Once he was gone, things started to come together for Boston. In the first game today, Nick Pivetta had a strong start on defense as Triston Casas crushed the offense with three home runs. The final score was 8-1 as Boston encroached on Minnesota’s breathing room.

With a quiet second game, no scoring until the fifth inning. The Twins had two runs in the top of the fifth and the Red Sox answered in the bottom with three right back. Romy Gonzales had a three-run homer in the fifth and his next at-bat, a sacrifice fly to make the score 8-2 Boston. While the crowd was sparse in Fenway tonight, the spirits were high with the team, final score of the second game 9-3. They came together on a long day to do everything they could with their leader gone, the Red Sox proved Cora or not they were not giving up yet.

Cora and Devers Sit Out In Red Sox Triuph

With Rafael Devers on the 10-Day Injured List and Alex Cora getting ejected from today’s game, the Red Sox game together without either of these leaders. Nothing is holding Cora at Boston despite Craig Breslow’s recent cut to the front office staff despite this year’s contract renewal. Henry and Breslow are on the hunt to save every penny they can, and it appears they are joining forces to do so. Alex Cora hasn’t had the best last few seasons, and his behavior today was childish. It was almost as if Bobby Knight was channeled through Alex Cora for a moment today.

Cora isn’t usually one to come out screaming, today he put on a show as he was approached out of Fenway Park today. It is not just the fans that have their eye on Cora, Henry will do anything to save a buck so if Cora isn’t representing the Red Sox in the ways Henry expects he will not be back for next season.  We don’t know how John Henry perceived the immature acts put on display for the world to see today by the Red Sox manager, but we do know what a ‘classy’ guy Henry so desperately wants to appear. We can look forward to some backlash from the owner of the Red Sox after Cora’s ejection.

Cora Gives Red Sox Room To Breathe

Did Cora’s absence propel the Red Sox into wins today? They may have been fighting for their manager’s approval, seeing his actions as loyalty. Or they finally had the room to breathe and come together as a team to win on a day where there were two games instead of one.  In a time where the Red Sox have to win each game, so close to being out of contention for the playoffs, they put a show on and continue to stay in the race. Keep it up Red Sox, we do believe in miracles.
