Colton Hiller Duke Recruitment

The Colton Hiller Duke recruitment update shows the five-star forward made an official visit as the Blue Devils push to land a top 2028 prospect.

Colton Hiller Duke Recruitment

Duke basketball received a crystal ball prediction to land five-star forward Colton Hiller after the Coatesville, Pennsylvania, prospect took an official visit to Durham on Monday, Oct. 5, according to Sports Illustrated. Hiller, rated the No. 2 overall player in the 2028 class by 247Sports Composite Rankings, holds 26 scholarship offers, and Duke’s has been among the most persistent, according to Yahoo Sports.

The Colton Hiller Duke recruitment has gained momentum over the past several months, with the 6-foot-6 forward’s recruitment drawing attention well before his official visit even took place.

The Main Development

Duke extended a scholarship offer to Hiller in June, and he followed that up with a trip to Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. last season to watch the Blue Devils play Michigan in a non-conference matchup, according to Yahoo Sports. Hiller told The Devil’s Den it was an “awesome and great experience” attending that game.

Hiller is not committing to Duke in isolation. The program already has commitments from Luke Paul, an Australian point guard, and five-star forward Kager Knueppel in its 2027 class, according to Sports Illustrated. Five-star 2027 forward Asa Montgomery also received a crystal ball prediction toward Duke after visiting Durham for the Countdown to Craziness event.

What It Means

Hiller’s recruitment carries an added wrinkle because he is technically part of the 2028 class, one cycle behind Paul, Knueppel and Montgomery. Sports Illustrated reported Hiller could be a potential reclassification candidate into the 2027 class, though doing so would require him to spend two years in college basketball under current rules.

Duke head coach Jon Scheyer addressed the broader trend of early reclassification at ACC Tipoff, pointing to forward Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje as an example. “You’re going to see this more. You’re going to see this more,” Scheyer said.

“It’s just the way college has changed, the fact that you get a guy like [Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje] for two years to grow with him, to have the continuity. I promise you that’s the first of many guys to do it in years to come.”

Scheyer’s comments suggest Duke’s recruiting strategy increasingly hinges on landing players willing to reclassify early, a dynamic that could directly apply to Hiller’s decision.

Context And Background

Hiller also took an official visit to Florida on Sept. 5. That trip carries family significance: his brother, Maxwell Hiller, is the No. 2 overall player in the 2027 football recruiting class and committed to Florida in April, with plans to enroll in December, according to Yahoo Sports.

No commitment has been reported for Colton Hiller. The crystal ball prediction toward Duke reflects a projection from recruiting analysts, not a confirmed decision from the prospect himself.

What’s Next

Hiller has not announced a commitment timeline. Duke continues building out its 2027 class around committed prospects Paul and Knueppel, while also pursuing Montgomery, whose recruitment remains unresolved despite his own crystal ball prediction toward the program.
