The Cleveland Cavaliers signed forward Nae’Qwan Tomlin to a new two-year, $3 million contract, agent Aaron Turner of Verus Basketball told ESPN. Here’s what you need to know about Tomlin, 25, and his new contract with the Cavaliers.

Cleveland Cavaliers Sign Nae-Qwan Tomlin

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the news of the Cleveland Cavaliers signing Nae-Qwan Tomlin to a new contract on Tuesday. Charania, 31, posted on X, formerly Twitter, “The Cleveland Cavaliers are signing two-way forward Nae’Qwan Tomlin to a new two-year, $3 million guaranteed contract, agent Aaron Turner of Verus Basketball tells ESPN. Tomlin has served as a reliable, energetic reserve for the Cavs.”

Charania’s assessment of Tomlin was fair. Tomlin’s not a flashy player by NBA standards, but he has been making a positive impact in Cleveland, Ohio. He has been bringing defense, energy, and intensity to the table. He’s averaging 6.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game, while shooting 48.7% from the field, 22.4% from three-point range, and 74.5% from the free throw line.

The X Post That Spoke Volumes

Charania’s post on X attracted ample attention. One user, HIGHBEE, asked, “Undrafted two-way $3M guaranteed in year 2? Nae’Qwan Tomlin quietly building the best under-the-radar glow-up in the league rn Y’all sleeping on the Cavs depth or just hate to see hustle pay off?”

Another user, Gurdast, responded, “Cleveland only gave Tomlin a standard deal because Evan Mobley is out with a calf injury and they’re desperate for a warm body to stand in the corner. Averaging 6.6 points in 17 minutes isn’t breakout material. It’s a placeholder performance for a team that missed out on actually making a splash at the trade deadline. He’s a G League talent with a lucky contract.”

Aside from earning a new contract, Nae-Qwan Tomlin’s outlook appears bright but is a work in progress. Obviously, Tomlin must continue to prove that he deserves his current contract, but for the time being, gained stability in Cleveland after multiple two-way and 10-day contracts.

Tomlin’s Future with Cavaliers

Although his stats aren’t flashy, Tomlin’s performance and contributions have been a game-changer for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ success. The Cavaliers appear to show confidence in his long-term value and potential.
