Baltimore Orioles Starting Pitcher Charlie Morton turned back the clock this evening at home against the Los Angeles Angels. He tossed five scoreless innings and struck out 10. At the time of publication, Baltimore leads 2-0 in the bottom of the 5th. The game is in a rain delay.
He became the oldest pitcher since at least 1974, 41 years and 213 days, to have 8+ strikeouts in the first 3 innings of a game. All-time great Nolan Ryan also accomplished this feat. Morton also joined an exclusive list of players 41+ to have multiple 10+ strikeout games. The veteran pitcher also had 10 punchouts on April 3 against the Boston Red Sox. It has been a rough season for Morton. He is 2-7 with a 6.05 ERA. Will Friday’s start help him finally get on track?
