Eugenio Chacarra won the DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club on Sunday, finishing at 21 under par to claim his third title of the 2026 season and seize the Chacarra Race to Dubai lead from Patrick Reed, who had topped the standings for most of the year.
Chacarra closed with a 70 to finish two shots clear of Daniel Hillier of New Zealand, who posted 19 under and made a late push on the back nine. The victory moves Chacarra to four career DP World Tour wins and gives him the top spot in a season-long race that had belonged to Reed.
The Main Development
Chacarra took a five-shot lead into the final round after firing a third-round 63 that was completed Sunday morning. Hillier chipped away at that margin all day, cutting it from six shots to just two late in the round before Chacarra closed it out.
“It’s great, after all the hard work. The last round was tough,” Chacarra said. “It’s really tiring, waking up three days in a row at 4am.
My body wasn’t there, I didn’t feel good. It’s hard to have a big lead, you don’t really want to push but you want to with guys making birdies.”
Chacarra also described the mindset behind his run of results this season. “I know what I’m capable of. I was one of the best amateurs in the world and I wanted to be one of the best professional players in the world. I work really hard and I’ve got a great team surrounding me,” he said.
What It Means For The Chacarra Race To Dubai Lead
Reed had been the long-time leader of the Race to Dubai standings, sitting 166 points ahead of Chacarra entering the India event, according to Golf Digest. That gap closed entirely with the win, as Chacarra’s victory at Delhi Golf Club pushed him past Reed and into the No. 1 position with the season entering its closing stretch.
The tournament carried a $4 million purse, with Chacarra’s win earning him $680,000, per Golf Digest. Tommy Fleetwood entered as the defending champion of the DP World India Championship.
Context And Background
This marks Chacarra’s third win of the 2026 season, adding to earlier victories at the KLM Open and the DS Automobiles 83° Open d’Italia in June. He now has four DP World Tour titles overall, including a win at the Hero Indian Open last season at DLF Golf and Country Club, located near this week’s venue.
Chacarra competed through a recently fractured toe, according to the DP World Tour, continuing to play despite the injury throughout the week in Delhi.
Player Impact
Chacarra also addressed his ambitions for Europe’s Ryder Cup team, saying he has made clear to captain Luke Donald that he wants to earn his spot outright. “I told Luke back in the day I want to be in that team by not just a pick. I want to get one of those six spots so that’s one of the goals we have as a team.
I’m working really hard for it. I just want to keep getting better and keep winning,” Chacarra said.
Hillier’s runner-up finish, alone in second at 19 under, marked a strong response after trailing by as many as six shots during the final round.
What’s Next
Chacarra now carries the Race to Dubai lead into the remainder of the 2026 DP World Tour schedule, with Reed looking to respond after losing his grip on the top spot. The tour’s season-long points race continues to take shape as players jockey for position ahead of the Ryder Cup selection period Chacarra referenced in his comments.
