Alex Tuch scored with 9:51 left in the third period and the Washington Capitals beat the Nashville Predators 4-3 on Thursday at Bridgestone Arena. Cole Hutson had two goals for Washington, which improved to 8-4-0.

The Capitals needed a response after Ross Colton tied the game 3-3 just 3:35 earlier, capping a Nashville rally built on power-play production and Roman Josi’s playmaking. Tuch’s goal, assisted by Jordan Kyrou and Jakob Chychrun, proved to be the difference as goaltender Charlie Lindgren made 24 saves to close it out. Filip Forsberg scored twice for the Predators, who fell to 4-4-5.

Key Moments: How Washington Won

Filip Forsberg opened the scoring at 12:48 of the first period on a slap shot assisted by Ryan O’Reilly and Roman Josi. Hutson answered 3:25 later, burying a wrist shot set up by Jack St. Ivany and Pierre-Luc Dubois to tie it 1-1.

Boone Jenner put Washington ahead 2-1 at 4:15 of the second period off a feed from Aliaksei Protas and Martin Fehervary, but Forsberg struck again at 9:09 to tie it 2-2. Hutson snapped a shot past Juuse Saros at 13:46 with assists from Protas and St. Ivany to make it 3-2.

Ross Colton tied it 3-3 at 6:34 of the third on a goal set up by Adam Edstrom and Roman Josi, who finished with three assists. Tuch settled it less than four minutes later with his 10th goal of the season, and Lindgren shut the door the rest of the way.

Top Performers

Hutson finished with two goals and led the Capitals in points. Protas recorded two assists, and St. Ivany added two helpers of his own on Washington’s blue line. Lindgren stopped 24 of 27 shots for a .889 save percentage in the win.

For Nashville, Forsberg scored twice, and Josi had three assists. Saros made 25 saves on 29 shots. Nashville won 33 faceoffs to Washington’s 23 and went 1 for 3 on the power play.

What It Means

Washington improved to 8-4-0 and sits at 16 points in the Metropolitan Division with New Jersey and the NY Islanders. The win also gives Washington a 1-0 lead in the season series against Nashville.

Nashville fell to 4-4-5 and 13 points in the Central Division with five overtime losses. Nashville has struggled to close out games, a pattern that continued when Forsberg’s second goal and Colton’s tying marker both came after Washington had built leads.
