Canada called up MLS forwards Marcus Caldeira and Theo Corbeanu on Monday to replace injured players for Tuesday’s international friendly against the United States in the Canada vs. USMNT friendly. Head coach Jesse Marsch made the additions after Cyle Larin and Tajon Buchanan dropped out due to injuries.
The match kicks off at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minnesota, and airs on TNT, truTV, HBO Max, Universo and Peacock. Canada have won their last two matches against the USMNT, 2-1, under Marsch.
The call-ups
Caldeira, 21, earned his first-ever Canada call-up after an impressive rookie season with Minnesota United. The 2024 MLS SuperDraft selection has 5 goals and 3 assists in 11 appearances across all competitions this season. Tuesday’s match at Minnesota’s home ground could mark his senior CanMNT debut.
Corbeanu, 22, earns his first call-up under Marsch after last playing for Canada in September 2022. Since joining Toronto FC ahead of the 2025 campaign, the winger has 8 goals and 5 assists in 46 MLS games.
Why the changes matter
Larin, 31, experienced back irritation and returned to Southampton in the English Championship. Marsch said the decision to send the Brampton, Ontario striker back to his club was precautionary after he felt discomfort ahead of Canada’s friendly against Peru on Saturday.
Buchanan suffered a lower-body injury during Canada’s 2-0 victory over Peru in Montreal. Marsch said the winger’s hamstring was tweaked when he was pulled down by a Peruvian defender, a potential red card, and he would not have been available for the USMNT match. Buchanan has since returned to La Liga’s Villarreal for further evaluation.s 2-0 victory over Peru in Montreal.

Canada vs. USMNT: unbeaten streak
Canada enters Tuesday undefeated against the United States under Marsch, having won both matches. Les Rogues topped the USMNT 2-1 in a September 2024 friendly, then repeated the scoreline in the 2025 CONCACAF Nations League third-place match.
The United States has reeled off three straight lopsided wins during the current window, but Caldeira and Corbeanu now give Canada attacking depth to compete at Allianz Field after losses to Larin and Buchanan.
What’s next
The friendly kicks off Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. ET. It is Canada’s final match of the September-October international window after victories over Chile and Peru.
