Five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright, ESPN’s No. 1 overall recruit in the 2028 class, committed to Miami on Thursday and will reclassify to the 2027 class. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound pass catcher from Jacksonville, Florida, chose the Hurricanes over Florida and Texas. Wright is expected to sign with Miami in December.
Upon his move into the 2027 cycle, Wright is expected to rank No. 7 overall in that class and as the top-ranked wide receiver in the 2027 group, per ESPN.
The Terms Of The Commitment
Wright’s commitment is not yet a signed deal. He is slated to sign with Miami in December as part of the early signing period, a timeline reported by ESPN. His reclassification to 2027 means he will join the Hurricanes’ roster a full year ahead of his original high school graduation timeline, putting him on track for an earlier college arrival than most of his draft class.
Wright joins Miami’s 2027 class as the second five-star pledge in the group, following five-star athlete A’mir Sears. In-state standout Nick Lennear and four-star Eli Woodward round out Miami’s receiver pledges for the cycle, per ESPN.
Why It Happened And What It Means For Miami
Wright’s decision to move up a class was shaped in part by the path of current Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney, according to ESPN. Toney reclassified from the 2026 cycle, led the nation in receptions and earned first-team All-ACC honors, a precedent ESPN reports factored into Wright’s thinking. Wright also visited Miami for the Hurricanes’ 43-35 overtime win over Florida State on Oct. 17, according to ESPN.
For Miami, landing a prospect ranked this high and accelerating his arrival by a year gives coach Mario Cristobal a long-term target he can plug into the receiver room sooner than typical recruiting cycles allow. Wright’s move was influenced by the success of Miami star wide receiver Malachi Toney, who reclassified from the 2026 cycle, led the nation in receptions and earned first-team All-ACC honors, per ESPN.
What’s Next
Wright is expected to sign with Miami in the early signing period in December. His reclassification shifts his recruiting profile into the 2027 class rankings, and Miami (8-0, 6-0) faces No. 11 Notre Dame on Saturday with the Hurricanes’ recruiting momentum heading into a College Football Playoff contender matchup.
