Boston holds the edge in nearly every core category, outscoring Anaheim by six goals on the season while allowing fewer than three a night. The Ducks have found more success on the power play, converting seven times compared to Boston’s three, a gap that could matter if either team draws extra man advantages Friday.

Boston Bruins Outlook

The Bruins have won three straight, including a 6-1 rout of the Utah Mammoth, a 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers and a 6-3 victory at the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 14. That stretch followed back-to-back losses to the Minnesota Wild and Ottawa Senators to open the month. Boston sits second in the Atlantic Division with 10 points, two behind Ottawa.

David Pastrnak leads the team with eight points on two goals and six assists, while Fraser Minten paces Boston in goals with four. Jeremy Swayman is the probable starting goalie for Boston, and his numbers back up the trust: the Bruins have allowed just 16 goals in seven games, the fewest in the Atlantic among teams with winning records. Boston’s .925 team save percentage ranks among the league’s best marks through this stretch.

Anaheim Ducks Outlook

Anaheim enters at 4-2-0 and fourth in the Pacific Division with eight points. The Ducks have alternated wins and losses over their last two outings, beating the Calgary Flames 4-2 on Oct. 11 before falling to the same Flames team 4-2 on Oct. 14. Leo Carlsson leads Anaheim with nine points on two goals and seven assists, while Beckett Sennecke tops the club with four goals.

Lukas Dostal is the probable starting goalie for the Ducks, who will be without several forwards. Mikael Granlund and Cutter Gauthier are both listed as day-to-day with upper-body injuries, while Ryan Poehling (lower body) and Troy Terry (hip surgery) remain on injured reserve. Defenseman Ian Moore is also on injured reserve with a lower-body injury. With Terry and Poehling out long-term and Granlund and Gauthier questionable, Anaheim’s offensive depth will be tested against a Bruins team that has scored 26 goals through seven games.

Key Matchup

Boston’s faceoff advantage, a team-best 50.6% compared to Anaheim’s 45.3%, could prove decisive if the Ducks are without Granlund and Gauthier at the dot. Anaheim already sits below .500 in faceoffs at 158-191 on the season, and losing more draws would hand Boston extra possession time against a Ducks penalty kill that has already allowed seven power-play goals against.

The other matchup to watch is goaltending. Swayman and the Bruins have posted a .925 save percentage as a team, while Dostal and Anaheim sit at .901. If Boston’s forwards can generate the shot volume they’ve shown this season, 179 total shots through seven games compared to Anaheim’s 141, that gap in goaltending efficiency could shape the final result.

What To Watch

Boston is chasing Ottawa for first place in the Atlantic, sitting two points back after the Senators beat the Bruins 4-1 earlier this month, a result recapped in Total Apex Sports’ coverage of that game. A win in Anaheim would keep Boston within range heading into the weekend. For the Ducks, closing the gap on Pacific Division leaders Vegas and Edmonton means finding offense without several regulars in the lineup.

Pastrnak’s recent form is also worth tracking after his four-point effort against Utah, detailed in Total Apex Sports’ recap of the Mammoth win. Boston’s three-game win streak began with that game, and the club followed it up with Minten’s two-goal performance in the Oct. 14 win at San Jose, covered in Total Apex Sports’ Bruins-Sharks recap. Anaheim will look to bounce back from its loss to Calgary and get healthier up front in the coming weeks, with Granlund and Gauthier both carrying return dates of Oct. 16 as day-to-day designations.
