The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-4 on Monday night at American Family Field, taking a 2-0 lead in the NLCS. William Contreras drove in three runs on three hits, including a solo home run, to power the Brewers to their fifth straight win.

Milwaukee trailed 4-3 before Contreras tied the game with a 436-foot home run to center in the fifth inning. The Brewers then scored single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to pull away, while Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto was charged with three runs on four hits over 2.2 innings before an early exit.

Key Moments: How The Brewers Pulled Away

Los Angeles opened the scoring in the first inning when Teoscar Hernandez’s sacrifice fly brought in Mookie Betts, but Contreras answered immediately with an RBI single that scored Brice Turang to tie it 1-1.

The Dodgers moved back in front in the third when Tommy Edman scored on a pickoff error committed by Milwaukee starter Logan Henderson, with Betts picked off at second on the same play. Christian Yelich erased that lead in the bottom of the third with a two-run single that brought home Turang and a runner from third, putting the Brewers up 3-2.

Los Angeles scored two runs in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. Edman’s sacrifice bunt scored one run with a throwing error by Henderson, and Freddie Freeman’s sacrifice fly scored another before Contreras tied it with his solo home run in the bottom half.

Contreras singled in the sixth to extend Milwaukee’s lead to 5-4. Turang added an RBI single in the eighth, and Jake Bauers capped the scoring with a single that drove in Turang while a fielding error by Dodgers center fielder allowed Contreras to reach third, making it 7-4.

Top Performers

JoJo Romero (1-1) earned the win with a scoreless sixth inning that included two strikeouts, one of Shohei Ohtani. Aaron Ashby picked up the save with 1.2 scoreless innings, and Abner Uribe held the Dodgers hitless over 1.1 innings in between.

What It Means

Los Angeles, which finished the regular season 100-62 and topped the NL West, has dropped the first two games of the series and must now win on the road to climb back into it.

What’s Next

The NLCS shifts to Los Angeles for Game 3, with the Dodgers looking to avoid falling into a 3-0 series hole.
