The Charlotte Hornets and Brandon Miller agreed to a five-year, $209 million rookie contract extension on Monday. The Brandon Miller contract extension keeps the No. 2 overall pick from the 2023 NBA draft in Charlotte beyond the final year of his rookie deal.

Miller’s agents, AJ Vaynerchuk and Joey Middleton, negotiated the deal. The agreement comes after the Hornets exercised Miller’s $15.1 million player option for the 2026-27 season back in October 2025.

Terms Of The Deal

The extension runs five years for $209 million, a figure that reflects Miller’s standing as Charlotte’s leading scorer. The new money kicks in once his current contract expires, building on the $15.1 million option year already in place for 2026-27.

What It Means For Charlotte’s Core

Locking up Miller removes a major question mark from Charlotte’s roster planning. Without an extension, Miller would have hit restricted free agency ahead of the 2027-28 season, a scenario that could have invited trade speculation around one of the team’s top young players.

Instead, the Hornets secure Miller, 23, as a cornerstone alongside fellow young talent Kon Knueppel. The move signals that Charlotte intends to build its rebuild around Miller rather than risk losing him or facing offer sheets from rival teams.

Miller’s Season And Career Context

Miller led the Hornets in scoring last season at 20.2 points per game, his third year in the league. He also averaged 4.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 43.5% from the field and a career-high 38.3% from three-point range.

Health was a major factor in his breakout production. Miller played in 65 games in 2025-26, a sharp jump from the 27 games he appeared in during his injury-shortened second season. That availability coincided with Charlotte’s turnaround from a 19-63 record in 2024-25 to 44-38 last season, a run that ended with a loss in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament.

What’s Next

The extension is reported as agreed but still needs to become official through the standard league process. Charlotte will carry Miller on his $15.1 million option salary for the 2026-27 season before the new five-year, $209 million term begins. The Hornets head into the season looking to build on last year’s progress with Miller and Knueppel as the foundation of their young core.
