The Chicago Blackhawks beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 on Tuesday at United Center, getting a third-period goal from Wyatt Kaiser to snap a tie and hand Los Angeles its sixth loss in nine games. Spencer Knight stopped 25 of 26 shots for Chicago.

Los Angeles opened the scoring just 2:31 into the first period when Samuel Helenius buried a wrist shot off assists from Jared Wright and Andre Lee. The Kings held that 1-0 lead until the Blackhawks tied it in the second on a power-play goal from Roman Kantserov, assisted by Connor Bedard and Teuvo Teravainen. Kaiser then put Chicago ahead for good 7:17 into the third, scoring off feeds from Frank Nazar and Patrick Kane. Anton Forsberg made 25 saves in the loss for Los Angeles.

Takeaways From Blackhawks’ Win Over Kings

Chicago’s power play came through when it mattered

The Blackhawks converted one of three power-play chances for a 33.3% success rate, and it proved decisive. Kantserov’s second-period tally with the man advantage erased the deficit Helenius created early, setting up Kaiser’s go-ahead strike in the third.

Knight outdueled Forsberg in net

Spencer Knight finished with a .962 save percentage on 26 shots faced, allowing just the one Helenius goal. Forsberg kept Los Angeles competitive with 25 saves of his own on 27 shots, but the one he couldn’t stop came at the worst time for the Kings.

Kings controlled faceoffs and physicality but not the scoreboard

Los Angeles won 57.9% of its faceoffs and out-hit Chicago 28-15, yet the Blackhawks matched them in shots 27-26 and made their chances count. The Kings’ 15 giveaways to Chicago’s 12 also played a role in a game decided by three total goals.

Player Of The Game: Wyatt Kaiser

Wyatt Kaiser scored the game-winning goal 7:17 into the third period, finishing with a goal, two shots on goal and a block in 20:14 of ice time. It was his first goal of the season, and it stood as the difference in a one-goal game.

Blackhawks Vs. Kings By The Numbers

Chicago out-shot Los Angeles 27-26 despite winning just 42.1% of faceoffs compared to the Kings’ 57.9%. The Blackhawks capitalized on their lone power-play goal in three chances, while the Kings went 0-for-3 with the man advantage. Los Angeles out-hit Chicago 28-15 and committed three penalties for six minutes, the same penalty-minute total Chicago registered on two infractions. Spencer Knight’s .962 save percentage topped Anton Forsberg’s .926 mark in a game that came down to finishing, not volume.

What It Means

The loss dropped Los Angeles to 3-6-2. Chicago improved to 4-8-0.
