The Colorado Avalanche beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 at United Center on Monday, rallying from a two-goal deficit behind goals from Nazem Kadri and Jaden Schwartz. The win was Colorado’s third straight, improving the Avalanche to 9-5-1.
Chicago jumped ahead twice in the opening period but could not hold either lead. The Blackhawks fell to 4-10-1 with their third consecutive loss, going 0-2-1 over that stretch and 1-5-1 in their last seven games.
Key Moments: How Colorado Rallied From Two Goals Down
Wyatt Kaiser opened the scoring just 57 seconds into the game, his shot from the blue line deflecting off Cale Makar’s stick and past Mackenzie Blackwood. Roman Kantserov made it 2-0 at 7:05, finishing a 2-on-1 breakaway with Connor Bedard with a one-timer from his knee in the right circle.
Colorado had a would-be goal from Martin Necas wiped off the board at 13:22 after a coach’s challenge for goaltender interference against Gabriel Landeskog. The Avalanche answered anyway. Kadri dove and poked home a rebound off Landeskog’s initial shot at 15:23 to cut the deficit to 2-1, and Schwartz tied it 26 seconds later on a feed from T.J. Hughes from the left circle.
The second period belonged to Colorado. Kadri scored on the power play at 13:38, tipping in a Makar point shot for a 3-2 lead. Schwartz added his second of the night at 19:49 when Sam Malinski’s wrist shot deflected off his stick and through Spencer Knight’s five-hole, making it 4-2. Devon Toews closed the scoring with an empty-net goal at 17:38 of the third period for the final 5-2 margin.
