Colorado Avalanche Beat New York Islanders 4-1

Colorado Avalanche

The Avalanche beat the Islanders 4-1 last night. Is there such a thing as moral victories in professional sports? The Avalanche has only lost one game this season. This was a home game for the Avalanche. It was only 2-1 with about 90 seconds left in the game, before the Avalanche scored an empty net goal and picked up a last-second goal from old friend Brock Nelson.

If the Islanders play this well for the rest of the season, they will win a lot of games. Do you think the Avalanche has secured the Presidents’ Trophy as the highest point team in the regular season?

Avalanche Beat Islanders 4-1

The Avalanche beat the 4-1 last night. The Colorado Avalanche have lost only one game this year, so this was a great test for the Islanders. They played well in this game, keeping up with the best team in the National Hockey League. The game ended up 4-1, but it was much closer than that. Here is a scoring summary.

In the first period, Emil Heineman scored for the Islanders, giving them a surprise 1-0 lead. That was the only goal of the period, as the Islanders made their slim lead hold up until the second period.

In the second period, the Colorado Avalanche scored two goals. First, Ross Colton scored, evening the score at 1. Then, Victor Olofsson scored, and he gave Colorado a 2-1 lead.

In the third period, Colorado scored two more goals late. Martin Necas scored for the Avalanche into an open net with 35 seconds remaining. That gave Colorado a 3-1 lead. Then Nelson scored for Colorado with 16 seconds remaining. That made the score 4-1 Colorado, the final score of the game. He is an old friend who played more than 900 games for the Islanders.

News and Notes

  • Nelson is a former member of the Islanders. He was traded late last season for Cal Ritchie, who played in this game for the Islanders. Nelson had a goal and an assist in the game. Cal Ritchie did not score.
  • Heineman has now scored the first goal in three consecutive games. He is on pace to far surpass his ten goals from last year.
  • Scott Wedgewood made 28 saves for the Colorado Avalanche, who extended their point streak to 10 games.

Islanders Coach Patrick Roy Played for and Coached the Avalanche

Another tie between the Islanders and Avalanche is the Islander’s coach, Patrick Roy. He not only coached Colorado, but he also played for them. He said: “We could have done a little bit better job having bodies in front of the net and try to take his eyes away from the puck, but he made some great saves. I mean, come on. Just the save at the end, side to side on Bo Horvat, or the save on [Kyle] Palmieri from the pocket. I mean, come on, they were like grade A chances.”

He added, “It was a hard-fought game. I thought we played really well, and their goaltender was the story of the game,” Roy said. “He made some really good saves, especially on our power play. I mean, we had a lot of good looks, and he made those saves. I thought it was a great team effort. I mean, it was probably our best game of the road trip, to be honest. I thought we played really well.”

Conclusion

The Islanders played well in this game as they hung in against the best team in the league. If they play like this for the rest of the season, they will win many games. They play another tough team in the Dallas Stars on Tuesday at 8 pm Eastern, before completing their seven-game road trip on Thursday in Detroit.
