Aaron Rodgers on verge of unique NFL record Thursday vs. Browns

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) throws during the first half.

Aaron Rodgers is one great game away from an unprecedented NFL milestone. If the Steelers quarterback throws at least two touchdown passes without an interception against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night, he will set an Aaron Rodgers NFL record for the most touchdown passes against a single opponent with zero interceptions.

Rodgers has faced the Browns five times and compiled a 4-1 record with 11 touchdown passes and zero interceptions in those matchups, according to CBS Sports. That ties him for third all-time behind Tom Brady, who has 12 TD passes with zero picks against the Raiders, and Patrick Mahomes, who has 12 TD passes with zero interceptions against the Steelers. Drew Bledsoe rounds out the top tier with 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions against the Cardinals.

The path to history

The record sits at 12 touchdown passes, shared by Brady and Mahomes. Rodgers needs two TD passes without an interception to reach 13 and break the record.

The Browns’ defense held Rodgers to 168 passing yards and no touchdowns in his most recent trip to Cleveland in December 2025, a 13-6 loss. Rodgers threw two touchdown passes in his first meeting with Cleveland last season, showing a strong outing is possible, according to Yahoo Sports.

The record’s rarity lies in achieving two touchdown passes with zero interceptions against the same opponent. Brady has 12 such TD passes against the Raiders; Mahomes has 12 against Pittsburgh.

Stakes for the Steelers

Pittsburgh (2-1) scored 30 points against Cincinnati last weekend, its highest output of the season. A win over Cleveland would give the Steelers at least a tie for first in the AFC North. Related: Packers offensive line injuries a major problem in 1-2 start

Thursday also offers a chance to end a historic dry spell: Pittsburgh is 0-9 in Thursday night divisional road games since 1980. The Browns (2-1) won their last two games before Thursday’s matchup. Related: Steelers vs. Browns preview: AFC North rivals clash Thursday

Rodgers said the offense is beginning to find rhythm but emphasized consistency matters. “We’re gonna try and stack a few,” he said at practice, per NFL.com, meaning the Steelers need to string together good performances rather than rely on single outings.

What’s next

Even if Rodgers sets the record Thursday, it is not safe. The Steelers face Cleveland again in Week 8, giving him another shot at the Browns. Mahomes could eventually break it when Kansas City and Pittsburgh meet in 2027.
