Final Thoughts
Kyrie Irving was injured in Monday’s loss to the Sacramento Kings, and the Dallas Mavericks are running out of bodies. Irving awkwardly came down and fell to the court on the baseline late in the first quarter before grabbing his left knee and staying on the floor. He didn’t return but shot his two free throws while in agony. Anthony Davis was one of the people who helped him off the court.
The Mavericks must push forward after an MRI confirmed Irving suffered a torn ACL in his left knee after taking a misstep late in the first quarter in Monday’s loss to the Kings. He’ll miss the rest of the 2024-25 NBA season. His injury is a huge blow for a short-handed team treading water. The team’s goal should be for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dante Exum, and Max Christie to become star players.
Days before Monday’s game, Dallas concluded its Black History Month initiatives with AT&T. The Mavericks brought history to life for Dallas Independent School District students during a visit to the African American Museum of Dallas on February 28, 2025. James Madison and Sunset High Schoolers enjoyed visiting the museum, alongside Max Christie and Kessler Edwards.
The Mavericks will open a two-game homestand against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Central. Grizzlies’ Point Guard Ja Morant was fined $25,000 on Sunday for throwing a game ball in Friday’s 114-113 loss to the New York Knicks at the FedExForum. Morant angrily flung a ball across the court and into the stands as the Grizzlies led 88-82 at the end of the third quarter. He was assessed a technical foul.
