Offensive Tackle Shaq Mason To Be Released By Houston Texans

Mason

Guard Shaq Mason was informed by the Houston Texans on Friday he would be released by the team. He started 15 games in his second season with the team. He was set to make $10 million in 2025 and was under contract for $10.4 million in the 2026 season.

The veteran was a part of one of the worst offensive lines in football last season. They had a grade of 55.6 during the regular season according to Pro Football Network. Houston surrendered the third-most sacks last season with 54. The Texans also surrendered a whopping 11 sacks over their two postseason games. Where will Mason play next season?

Shaq Mason Career Summary

Mason spent the first seven seasons of his career with the New England Patriots. He then spent one season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers blocking for Tom Brady before spending the last two seasons with the Texans. He should have a robust market as he is a veteran player who has proven he can play at a high level. A few teams that should consider adding the veteran lineman are the Kansas City Chiefs, Cleveland Browns, and Seattle Seahawks.

Final Thoughts

Even though Houston will need to upgrade its offensive line this offseason, they will do so without Mason in the fold. Houston is an up-and-coming team and will need to block better for Quarterback C.J. Stroud to reach its full potential.
