Arizona Cardinals Continue Spending Spree, Sign Former Patriots QB To Deal

Arizona Cardinals Jacoby Brissett

The Arizona Cardinals have been very active this offseason. They have already signed plenty of quality pieces and made a big swing for pass rusher Josh Sweat. The team is doing everything to make sure the roster can compete in the NFC West. For any team, the backup quarterback position has become increasingly important. Injuries happen, and it is important to have a player who knows what he is doing on the roster. The Cardinals have shored up that position, signing former Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

Arizona Cardinals Sign Jacoby Brissett

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Jacoby Brissett is signing with the Arizona Cardinals. He has started 53 games in his career. Eleven of those starts were in Cleveland when current Cardinals coordinator Drew Petzing was with the team. The familiarity with the player likely played a factor in the signing. Brissett does have starting experience, though he showed last year he is a better QB2.

Last year, he started five games for the New England Patriots, throwing for 826 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The issue was that he didn’t push the ball down the field and basically ran a vanilla offense. Drake Maye took over, and he never relinquished the reins of the offense. The Arizona Cardinals now get a quality backup with good experience.

2025 Outlook

The Arizona Cardinals have had a quality offseason and already have good pieces on the roster. Marvin Harrison Jr. had one of the best rookie seasons in franchise history. Trey McBride is one of the best young tight ends in the game. Many of these signings are quality depth pieces, and Sweat will hopefully fill the need for a dynamic pass rusher. The Rams have loaded up with talent, and the Seahawks have had an interesting offseason.

This team will be interesting to watch in 2025. The team has quality pieces, but this wouldn’t be the first time this team looked promising but didn’t live up to expectations. Can this team compete in the NFC West in 2025?
