Minnesota Vikings Land Talented Young Running Back In Trade With 49ers

Minnesota Vikings land RB Jordan Mason

The Minnesota Vikings have been very active this offseason. After going 14-3 last year, the team is hungry to have another postseason appearance in 2025. They have re-signed many key contributors from last year and brought in some new faces to bolster their defensive line. The front office has added another offensive weapon to the roster. Minnesota has landed running back Jordan Mason in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers.

Minnesota Vikings Land RB Jordan Mason

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that not only are the Minnesota Vikings receiving Jordan Mason, but they are also signing him to a two-year deal worth up to $12 million ($7 million guaranteed). The Vikings are sending pick no. 160 in this year’s draft, as well as a 2026 sixth-round pick. San Francisco is sending pick no. 187 to Minnesota in the deal. Mason was thrust into a larger role last season because of injuries.

Christian McCaffrey struggled with injuries at the beginning of the season, leading Mason to be the starter for the first part of the year. He appeared in 12 total games and started six of them, rushing for 789 yards and three touchdowns. The former undrafted free agent out of Georgia Tech will now back up Aaron Jones in the Vikings backfield. This is yet another weapon to help JJ McCarthy.

2025 Outlook

After Sam Darnold signed with the Seattle Seahawks, the answer to one of the biggest offseason questions became clear. The Minnesota Vikings would be turning to JJ McCarthy, the former top-ten pick out of Michigan. Unless you believe any of the Aaron Rodgers rumors, McCarthy will be the starter. The team is giving him plenty of support. Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and TJ Hockenson, along with the running back room, gives this team plenty of weapons to lean on.

The NFC North is one of the toughest divisions in football, and the Vikings knew they needed to beef up both sides of the ball. They have been aggressive and hope they can topple the other three teams and take back the NFC crown in 2025.
