Minnesota Vikings Re-Sign 1,000-Yard Rusher To 2-Year Deal

Minnesota Vikings Aaron Jones

The Minnesota Vikings shocked many people in the NFL last season. They came into the year expected to finish near the bottom of the division. Instead, they went 14-3 in the regular season, led by a high-powered offense. The combination of Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison put up huge numbers, and TJ Hockenson came back from injury midseason, showcasing his elite abilities. Another huge contributor last year was running back Aaron Jones. He signed a one-year deal after the Green Bay Packers released him. After a 1,000-yard season for the Vikings, the team is bringing him back on a two-year deal.

Minnesota Vikings Re-Sign Aaron Jones

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports it is a two-year, $20 million deal with $13 million guaranteed. With how much talent is on the Minnesota Vikings, it is easy to forget what Aaron Jones did last season. The former UTEP player rushed for 1,138 yards and five touchdowns, adding 51 receptions for 408 yards and another two scores. His contributions on offense were one of the reasons the Vikings’ offense had success.

In past seasons, the Minnesota Vikings struggled in big games because their offense was one-dimensional. While Jefferson would still put up huge numbers, the defense didn’t have to respect the running game. That changed in 2024. Jones continued to show why he is one of the most underrated running backs in the league, setting a career-high in rushing yards and playing in all 17 games.

2025 Outlook

Reports indicate that Sam Darnold will likely not be back for the Minnesota Vikings. This means that first-round pick JJ McCarthy will be taking the reigns of the offense. There is nothing better for a rookie quarterback than a solid run game. Aaron Jones has some experience helping young quarterbacks. His final year in Green Bay was the first year Jordan Love was running the offense. He helped take pressure off of him, something the Vikings hope he can do for McCarthy.

Final Thoughts

This is a great signing for the Minnesota Vikings. He was such a key piece of the offense last year. With a first-year starter under center, a solid run game will be more important than ever before. Can the Vikings build on their success from last year and challenge for the NFC North crown?
