UFC veteran Tim Means has been arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse, according to court documents. The former MMA fighter was arrested and appeared in court for the first time on Friday, where he was released on pending charges.

Booking records showed that Means was being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center. He was subsequently released, and a court date was pending as of the most recent update. Tim is now charged with one count of felony child abuse, which is a more serious charge.

Criminal Complaint Reveals Details

The criminal complaint in the case was not immediately released to the public, but reports have shed light on the charges related to the incident. It is reported that, on April 10, police were dispatched to a home after being advised of a physical fight between two people. Means’ daughter was reportedly the caller, who stated a dispute had started over chores.

During the dispute, she claimed that Means head-butted her in the nose. She reportedly pushed him away as the confrontation continued. The complaint further alleges that Tim then grabbed the teenager by the neck in what authorities described as a strangulation manner and held her against a kitchen counter.

The alleged altercation did not stop there. Additional claims state that a veteran UFC fighter threw a potato that struck her in the face. When she attempted to defend herself by pushing and striking him to escape, Means allegedly punched her on the right side of the face with a closed fist.

Reported Injuries Noted By Police

Authorities reportedly documented visible injuries after responding to the scene. According to the complaint, officers observed marks on the teenager’s neck that were said to be consistent with strangulation. Blood was also reportedly present around the nose area, along with red marks on the face and cheek.

These observations were included as part of the evidence supporting the arrest. Following the investigation at the scene, Means was taken into custody by law enforcement officers.

Established UFC Career Now Overshadowed

The legal case now casts a shadow over the career of a fighter who has spent more than a decade competing at the highest level of mixed martial arts. Means, now 42 years old, became known to UFC fans through his toughness, striking style, and willingness to face a wide range of opponents. He spent approximately 12 years on the UFC roster, competing primarily in the welterweight division.

Throughout that run, he became a familiar name to long-time followers of the promotion and was involved in numerous memorable bouts. His most recent UFC appearance came in 2024, when he suffered a first-round submission defeat to Court McGee. That result marked his second consecutive loss inside the promotion.

Legal Process Still Ongoing

At this point, the case is still in its preliminary stages, and there is likely to be more to come in court once a date is set for a future hearing. Like any criminal case, the charges will be examined in court, where both the prosecution and defense will present their evidence and arguments. In the meantime, the focus has shifted from Means’ fighting career to what the future will bring.

The future of Means’ mixed martial arts career is uncertain. This may well be determined by the legal process and decisions made by sporting bodies or the UFC about his future. For now, one of the UFC’s senior fighters is facing a fight for his life, off the mat.
