UFC 326 News: New BMF Champion Crowned

For the first time ever, UFC 326 was able to draw some new eyeballs as they were able to have some fights on CBS. However, the main card would wind up on Paramount+ and we saw the BMF Championship on the line in the main event. Champion Max Holloway would try and defend the title against Charles Oliveira in a rematch from 2015. However, things went completely one-sided in tonight’s event. Let’s take a closer look at how the main event of UFC 326 went.

Charles Oliveira wins the BMF Championship at UFC 326

UFC 326 saw four of the five fights with the betting favorite winning, but not in the main event. Charles Oliveira would dominate and completely overwhelm Max Holloway through submissions and overpower the champion. Holloway struggled to land many punches overall, and Oliveira would completely dominate with submissions locked in for a majority of the fight.

The fifth round saw Holloway get some momentum, but it was too little too late after being controlled for about 10 minutes total in the first four rounds. Holloway originally won the BMF Championship at UFC 300 against Justin Gaethje, butwent 1-1 in his two fights since entering Saturday night.

Oliveira has now secured his 37th career victory in Mixed Martial Arts, and his next fight is going to be intriguing to see who will be his first challenger for the BMF Championship. Of course, this is not how most BMF Championship fights typically look, as they are more of Holloway’s style of fighting with high-octane strikes rather than grappling. However, at the end of the day, a win is a win, and Oliveira is the one leaving UFC 326 as a champion.

Entering UFC 326, Oliveira was the third-ranked contender for the UFC Lightweight Championship behind interim champion Gaethje and Arman Tsarukyan. It will be interesting to see if this dominant victory will move him up the rankings and which fighter will emerge to take on the new BMF Champion.

The UFC White House card was also announced during the show, which will include the Lightweight Championship unification match between the interim champion Gaethje and current champion Ilia Topuria.
