The Dallas Cowboys have been quiet in free agency in 2025. Jerry Jones has been the butt of many jokes but part of it is the state of the team. Much of the salary cap is tied up in Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, with star defensive end Micah Parsons due for a massive extension. They don’t have the cap space to sign players to massive contracts, which is what day one of free agency often is. The Cowboys did make a move to bolster their defensive line, signing defensive tackle Solomon Thomas to a two-year deal.
Dallas Cowboys Sign DT Solomon Thomas
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports it is a two-year deal worth up to $8 million. The Dallas Cowboys need some help on their defensive line. Parsons has taken some heat over the years for disappearing in big games. However, part of it is that teams are able to focus solely on the All-Pro, and no one else can win one-on-one. Solomon Thomas has spent the last three years with the New York Jets and now brings his services to Dallas.
Last year, he racked up 3.5 sacks, 26 total tackles, six quarterback hits, two passes defended, and one forced fumble. This is on par for his career. Every year, he comes in with consistent production. While his stats will not jump off the page, teams need this type of consistency out of a player. The Dallas Cowboys especially need some consistency if they are going to compete in the NFC East.
2025 Outlook
The Dallas Cowboys have their hands full in 2025. Philadelphia is coming off a Super Bowl victory, and the Washington Commanders have been making tons of moves this offseason. Both teams will be favored over the Cowboys in the division. Even the New York Giants are slated to be better than last year.
This team still has plenty of talent. Prescott and Lamb have shown they can be one of the best connections in the league. They have talent all over the roster but they can never seem to get over the hump. New head coach Brian Schottenheimer has his hands full. This is a quality signing for the Cowboys, but is it enough to topple the best in the NFC?
