Shedeur Sanders is one of the biggest names in the upcoming NFL Draft. It isn’t just that he is the son of Deion Sanders. During his two seasons at Colorado, he led the Buffaloes to exciting victories and showcased his elite accuracy. At this weekend’s NFL Combine, he did not work out but was there for the interview portion. Interviews are a time when teams can get to know the player on a personal level and get a sense of what they bring to the locker room. A recent report indicated that Sanders did not do well with one team.
Shedeur Sanders NFL Combine Interviews
NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that one team was not impressed with the attitude of Shedeur Sanders. The unnamed team is reportedly drafting in the top seven and labeled the Colorado quarterback as “arrogant” and “brash.” It was the unnamed team’s quarterback coach, who seems to have issues with the culture of the team. Anderson purposefully made a point to say that her interactions with Sanders were very different.
“Sanders appeared to go out of his way to acknowledge multiple media members, regardless if they were recognizable or not. He seemed cordial, polite, witty, thoughtful along with being confident (as many athletes are). Alternately, these observations were distinctly different from how another QB prospect came off to some in the media last year in Indy.”
College football has changed. Players are well-versed in NIL, and it is amplified in Shedeur Sanders. Being the son of one of the biggest personalities in all of sports. It is interesting that this one coach did not appreciate the attitude the quarterback brought to the NFL Combine. However, I’m with Anderson that this all seems overblown.
Outdated Analysis
Shedeur Sanders should be confident in himself. He led college football in completion percentage, and his skills aren’t limited to the football field. He has shown a business savvy that many players do not possess this early in their careers. There is a fine line between arrogance and confidence. Sanders was likely confident in what he could bring to a team, and it rubbed a specific quarterbacks coach the wrong way.
On that note, the NFL is full of people who have been coaching the game of football for years. Many of them have outdated opinions of what players should be. This feels like an old coach who doesn’t like it when players come in with too much confidence. Obviously, all of this is speculation, but we hear this every year during the NFL Combine. Some teams don’t like a certain player for weird reasons. Sanders will get taken by a team and will likely be a strong leader in the locker room.
Final Thoughts
Welcome to the NFL offseason. We will hear many other reports about certain players leading up to the NFL Draft. Where Shedeur Sanders lands will be one of the big questions for the next two months.
