Seattle Seahawks Sign Speedy Veteran Receiver To 1-Year Deal

The Seattle Seahawks have completely remade their roster in the first week of free agency. Before the legal tampering period opened, they sent quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders for a third-round pick. There were quarterback questions for a few days, but then they signed former Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold to a three-year deal. Now, they have to find some weapons. The team released Tyler Lockett and traded DK Metcalf, leaving Jaxon Smith-Njigba as the primary pass-catcher. They have signed another weapon for Darnold, adding veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports it is a one-year deal worth up to $5.5 million. The former fifth-round pick spent his first four seasons with the Green Bay Packers before bouncing around the league, playing for the Chiefs, Bills, and Saints. Last season, he started eight games for the injury-riddled Saints and caught 17 passes for 385 yards and four touchdowns. While he has never had a 1,000-yard season, he has been a quality member of a wide receiver room. He will be a valuable cog in the wheel of this offense.

What Will The Seahawks Be In 2025?

A week ago, the Seattle Seahawks looked like they were entering a rebuild. Now, it looks like they might be looking to compete in the NFC West. Head coach Mike MacDonald is known for being a defensive coach and has many young stars on that side of the ball. The offense is looking better by the minute. Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet make a great one-two punch out of the backfield. The biggest question might be the offensive line. That unit struggled, and so far, they have not made significant upgrades.

The Los Angeles Rams look to be the favorite in the NFC West. Outside of them, there are massive questions for every other team. Could the Seahawks push for a wild-card spot with this new-look offense?
