Phil Mickelson is facing another major controversy after a report surfaced claiming he was removed from a prestigious California golf club following allegations of inappropriate physical contact with a female employee.

According to a report from Golf Digest, Mickelson is no longer welcome at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California, where he had reportedly been a longtime member and regular presence for decades. The alleged incident reportedly occurred earlier this spring.

Golf Digest reported that Mickelson allegedly approached a female employee inside the clubhouse and made what sources described as nonconsensual and inappropriate physical contact.

The employee reportedly rejected the advances and later informed supervisors about the incident. According to the report, club officials conducted an independent investigation before ultimately confronting Mickelson while he was on the course and asking him to leave the premises.

The club later released a statement confirming disciplinary action had been taken against an unnamed member.

“Following a staff member report of member misconduct, the club provided immediate and ongoing support to the staff member, conducted a thorough independent investigation of the incident and took decisive action,” the statement read.

The report identified the member as Mickelson through multiple sources.

Phil Mickelson’s Camp Responds

A spokesperson for Mickelson downplayed the situation in a statement provided to Golf Digest.

“Any misunderstanding has been cleared up. Phil continues to attend to a family health matter and is uncertain when he will be able to return to professional golf.”

Mickelson has largely been absent from the golf world throughout 2026. The six-time major champion has played in just one event this year while dealing with what has only been described as a serious family health matter.

He also missed both the Masters and the PGA Championship and is no longer exempt for the U.S. Open.

Another Difficult Chapter for Phil Mickelson

The allegations add to what has become a turbulent stretch for one of golf’s most recognizable figures.

Mickelson was once among the sport’s most beloved stars thanks to his aggressive style of play, fan interactions, and major championship success. However, the latter stages of his career have included several high-profile controversies.

Those include his connection to a 2016 insider trading investigation, gambling allegations detailed in a 2023 autobiography by noted gambler Billy Walters, and the backlash surrounding his involvement with LIV Golf.

Mickelson also lost multiple sponsorships in 2022 after controversial comments regarding Saudi Arabia became public during LIV Golf’s launch.

Now, this latest report places even more scrutiny on the Hall of Fame golfer as uncertainty continues to surround both his professional future and public image.
