Makai Lemon Pick Signals Major Shift in Philadelphia Eagles’ 2026 Offensive Game Plan

Makai Lemon (6) catches a pass against the defense of Iowa Hawkeyes

The Makai Lemon pick did cause a huge dynamic shift in the landscape of the Eagles’ offense as a whole on multiple fronts after GM Howie Roseman decided to move up from 23 to 20 in a trade-up scenario to grab the receiver.

The first change is that they have a receiver who is more successful over the middle of the field, so this is going to require Jalen Hurts to use the middle of the field more this upcoming season. It also primarily signifies that the AJ Brown report of being traded that Adam Schefter reported on Monday is now a high possibility, even though Howie did still say that he’s an Eagle in the Lemon press conference on Thursday night.

Finally, this is definitely a Sean Mannion pick, and we are finally moving fully away from that awful scheme that Sirianni has “contributed” to in his tenure here in Philly, and it could be hot-seat time for Sirianni. Let’s break it down.

Lemon Should Help Jalen Hurts improve over the Middle of the Field

Lemon’s best quality is the route running, especially with the routes that get you over the middle of the field, to create YAC (Yards after Catch). Lemon is one of the best receivers when it comes to creating separation in this draft, as NFL Legend Wide Receiver Steve Smith broke down with James Palmer on his breakdowns channel. Hurts has had some struggles with consistency with throwing in the middle, where he has only thrown 38% of his throws in the middle of the field, which is 12 percent below league average.

This Sean Mannion offense is going to challenge Hurts in the middle of the field, which I think Hurts wants, and I think he will thrive in 2026 as the QB. Getting another receiver with a dynamic route tree like superstar DeVonta Smith has, this offense is going to be super talented and versatile in 2026, even without superstar A.J. Brown, which I will get into now.

Drafting Lemon Means That AJ Brown IS GETTING TRADED

I’m fighting back the tears right now typing this because I don’t want A.J. Brown to leave Philly because he’s is an elite talent, but he clearly doesn’t want to be an Eagle anymore if you look at the body language last year on the field, plus the fact that the Eagles actually used assets to get a wide receiver in the draft to reset that price tag and contract a big and get younger at that position. So if this is the case that Brown is actually gone after June 1st,

I want to thank him for everything he accomplished in a Philadelphia uniform and wish him luck. There’s a slim chance he’s back, but it’s looking like more and more he’s getting traded.

This is a Sean Mannion Pick

I say this is a Sean Mannion pick because the philosophy is shifting, and when you look at the video of the call from the team’s social media account, you can clearly see the smirk between Roseman and Mannion. The heat is on for Sirianni as well to succeed, but it also might not matter if Mannion does well because I think Roseman wants Mannion in the building for a while. We will have to wait and see.
