Eagles Make Splash Move, Land Jonathan Greenard in Bold Trade to Boost Pass Rush
The Eagles may have disappointed me with the Stowers selection, but then it was announced that Howie Roseman finally made a huge acquisition at the edge position, as Philadelphia desperately needed.
Jonathan Greenard has landed in South Philly from the Minnesota Vikings as the Vikings receive the 98th overall pick in the 2026 draft, and a 2027 3rd-round pick. Along with Greenard, Philadelphia also grabbed a seventh-round pick. Let’s break down the trade and what it means for the Philadelphia defense moving forward.
Greenard’s Numbers in His Career
Greenard has had 38 sacks in his career, although he only had three sacks last season due to an injury setback last season. In the previous two seasons, the newly minted Eagle had 12 and 12.5 sacks, respectively, so he can definitely get to the quarterback, which the Super Bowl LIX Champions have been searching for since letting go of Josh Sweat and Haason Reddick over the last few seasons.
The Eagles believe in him enough to give him a four-year $100 millon deal, but the question is, do I believe in what the front office believes? The answer is yes, I do, I think he is the guy that is going to be the answer once again at edge to go along with Nolan Smith, and Jalyx Hunt to complete that rotation of edge rushers.
The former Texan and Viking will fit with the Philly culture really well, as Philadelphia mostly rushes with four-man fronts, and Greenard, when healthy, is a dominant pass rusher. I’m glad Howie actually did something to address the defense after the questionable Stowers pick in my mind, because we definitely needed something to happen on the defensive side of the ball.
