His consistent play earned him a lucrative multi-year contract and solidified his status as a starting-caliber talent who rarely came off the field.

However, his one-year stint with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025 did not go as planned. The Chargers’ offensive scheme heavily favored role specialization over versatile playmakers. The coaching staff utilized specific tight ends strictly for blocking and heavily targeted a rookie for receiving duties. Conklin, who takes pride in being an every-down player, struggled to find his footing in this compartmentalized system. He played a career-low 169 offensive snaps, managing just seven catches for 101 yards across 13 appearances.

Instead of letting the frustrating season deter him, Conklin used the experience to fuel his offseason preparation. He recently expressed that his motivation is currently at an all-time high, and he firmly believes he has a significant amount of productive football left in the tank.
