NFL Analyst Urges Chicago Bears To Give Up 2 Picks For 5-Time Pro Bowler
The Chicago Bears took a massive leap forward last season. Riding a high-powered offense orchestrated by head coach Ben Johnson, the team secured an 11-6 record and won the NFC North. Caleb Williams proved he is a franchise quarterback, and young weapons like Luther Burden and Colston Loveland broke out in a big way.
But if you watched their heartbreaking overtime playoff loss to the Rams, you already know the harsh truth. The defense is holding this team back. Now, a new trade proposal suggests a blockbuster move that could instantly upgrade the secondary and push Chicago into championship conversations.
Why the Chicago Bears Need Defensive Help

Despite their offensive success, the Bears struggled to stop anyone last year. They finished with the 29th-ranked defense in the NFL, surrendering a staggering 361.8 yards per game during the regular season. Those numbers got even worse in the playoffs.
The front office made a few head-scratching decisions this offseason that depleted the roster’s talent pool. They allowed defensive staples like Tremaine Edmunds, Jaquan Brisker, and Kevin Byard to walk away in free agency. Letting Byard leave for a cheap one-year deal with the Patriots stings the most, especially after he led the league with seven interceptions.
Chicago did sign safety Coby Bryant and linebacker Devin Bush to help stop the bleeding. Still, the team lacks a true shutdown presence on the perimeter.
The Proposed Trade for Denzel Ward
According to a recent trade proposal from Fox Sports analyst Ralph Vacchiano, the Bears could solve their secondary issues by calling the Cleveland Browns. The proposed deal sends a 2026 third-round pick (89th overall) and a 2027 sixth-round pick to Cleveland in exchange for cornerback Denzel Ward.
For the Browns, moving Ward frees up significant salary cap space over the next two years. For the Bears, giving up two mid-to-late round draft picks is a small price to pay for a proven superstar. Holding two second-round picks already, Chicago has plenty of draft capital to easily make this move happen.
What Denzel Ward Brings to Chicago
If the Bears pull this off, they get one of the most reliable cornerbacks in football. Ward is a five-time Pro Bowler who is still only 28 years old. He has consistently proven he can lock down top-tier wide receivers and disrupt passing lanes.
Adding Ward completely changes how opposing offenses attack Chicago. He can step in and immediately take over starting duties from the erratic Tyrique Stevenson, or he can slide in as an elite third corner depending on the matchup. More importantly, securing the secondary allows the Bears to focus their remaining early draft picks on finding a premier edge rusher.
Super Bowl Ambitions in 2026
The Bears are knocking on the door of greatness. They have the offensive firepower to hang with anyone in the league, but you need a balanced roster to win a Lombardi Trophy.
Adding a player of Ward’s caliber signals to the rest of the NFC that Chicago is going all in. A lockdown cornerback gives the defensive line more time to reach the quarterback, creates more turnovers, and gets the ball back to Caleb Williams. If the front office can execute this trade, the 2026 season could end with a championship parade.
