NFL Reportedly Considering Another European Location After Fans Impress At The World Cup

Vikings, NFL considering Scotland

The NFL’s international expansion could eventually include a brand-new destination.

Reports indicate the league has discussed the possibility of hosting a regular-season game in Scotland, although sources stressed that the idea is still in the “conversation” phase rather than an active plan.

The report follows comments from New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who reportedly told commissioner Roger Goodell that he would like to see his team play a game there in the future. While nothing is imminent, the possibility highlights the NFL’s continued effort to grow the sport around the world.

Scotland Emerges as a Potential NFL Destination

The league has aggressively expanded its International Series in recent years, with games taking place in countries including England, Germany, Brazil, Spain, and Ireland. Now, Scotland may eventually join that list.

According to reports, league officials view the possibility as appealing, particularly as Goodell continues pushing to expand the international schedule beyond the record nine overseas games scheduled this season.

Potential venues that have been mentioned include Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh and Hampden Park in Glasgow, both of which have experience hosting major international sporting events. At this point, however, no official plans have been announced.

World Cup Atmosphere May Have Helped The Case

One reason this has generated renewed interest is the passionate support displayed during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Scottish fans traveled in large numbers to the United States, creating memorable atmospheres throughout the Boston area while the country played two World Cup matches at Gillette Stadium.

Supporters also packed Fenway Park during Boston Red Sox games, leaving such a positive impression that the Red Sox reportedly sent a letter thanking the Scottish Football Association for the incredible atmosphere created by traveling fans.

That level of enthusiasm demonstrated that the country has a passionate sports culture capable of supporting another major international event.

International Expansion Continues to Gain Momentum

Although Scotland is not currently part of the league’s Global Markets Program and no official game has been scheduled, the conversations themselves are notable.

The league has made no secret of its desire to continue expanding its global footprint, and adding new international locations remains one of Commissioner Roger Goodell’s long-term priorities.

For now, fans shouldn’t expect to see the New England Patriots, or any other NFL team, playing there anytime soon.

Still, with the league continuing to explore new markets and Scotland proving it can deliver an electric sporting atmosphere, the possibility appears very much alive. If discussions continue to gain momentum, an NFL game in Edinburgh or Glasgow could eventually become another milestone in the league’s international growth.
