Texas Rangers Fans Projected To Gain 35 Pounds This MLB Season
With the 2026 MLB regular season about to begin, professional baseball fans can expect growth in both attendance and engagement. Last season, MLB recorded its third straight year of attendance growth, reaching 71,409,421 fans to mark the first time since 2007 that the league surpassed the 70-million attendance milestone.
But there’s more to MLB than bat flips, mud-rubbed baseballs, and Cracker Jacks. A new research study by sports betting website, The Lines, uncovered that baseball fans consume 753 more calories on game days as opposed to regular days.
The average baseball fan watches 3.2 games per week, which could add about 18 pounds over the course of MLB’s regular season.
Just days ahead of the MLB regular season, The Lines’ research study revealed the snacking habits of 3,000 baseball fans across the United States to uncover the full weight of game day snacks, viewing habits, and the number of games watched.
Texas Rangers Fans Are Most Likely To Gain 35 Pounds
According to a research study by The Lines, Texas Rangers fans consume an average of 1,265 more calories on game days than on regular days. That is the highest of all MLB fanbases.
Rangers fans eat 1,265 extra calories per game day, which equates to 3.5 hot dogs. On average, the Rangers’ fans watch 3.8 games per week, which adds up to 35.7 pounds of potential weight gain over the course of the MLB season.
The Lines surveyed 3,000 U.S. baseball fans about their game day and non-game day snack habits, and how many games they watch each week. The researchers used the average calories per serving to calculate the daily increases and projected potential weight gain over a 26‑week MLB season, based on the 3,500‑calorie‑per‑pound benchmark.
Disclaimer: The weight gain figures are estimates. Results may vary depending on a person’s metabolism, age, activity level, and body composition. In addition, people who attend games in person at the stadium consume the most calories at 1,240, while individuals watching alone at home eat the fewest calories at just 525.
Fanbases Trailing the Rangers In Weight Gain
The Rangers lead the MLB’s fanbases in weight gain, but which MLB fanbases are trailing the Arlington, Texas-based team when it comes to ending the league’s regular season with a higher weight?
The San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros, and Atlanta Braves rounded out the top 10 of the study.
The Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals, San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks, St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Twins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies, Cleveland Guardians, and Detroit Tigers made up the middle of the pack with the No. 11 to 20 spots.
The Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, Washington Nationals, Athletics, Miami Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, and Los Angeles Angels completed the study with the No. 21 to 30 ranks.
The Angels’ fanbase saw the lowest MLB regular season-related weight gain with just 6.6 pounds, 340 extra calories, and 2.6 games watched per week.
It’s important to note that most Angels fans are frustrated with a lack of direct access to the team’s games, the team’s owner, Arte Moreno, and the team’s lack of success.
Rangers’ Outlook
The Rangers’ outlook entering the 2026 MLB regular season appears to be uncertain. The Rangers hired Skip Schumaker as their new manager to lead the team in 2026. Schumaker, 46, can bring a fresh, new perspective and strategy to Arlington, Texas, a positive that might outweigh previous negatives, such as declining offensive production and defensive metrics.
The Rangers are reportedly looking to improve their on-field performance, particularly an improved offensive output, while addressing previous shortcomings and incorporating new managers and players’ strategies.
