Los Angeles Angels Owner Says Fans Don’t Prioritize Winning

Angels owner Arte Moreno reacts against the Red Sox

Los Angeles Angels Owner Arte Moreno has always been a huge piece of work, and he’s back at it again. Moreno was speaking with reporters on Friday when he mentioned that the “number one thing fans want is affordability” to attend games during the MLB season, which was obviously not taken well by the fanbase.

His comments last week were absolutely wild and extremely insulting to every fan who continues to show support for a disastrous organization for over a decade. Los Angeles hasn’t been close to winning anything in a long time, and doesn’t look to have a way out of the rut it has been in.

Moreno Insulted The Fans

The product that the Angels have put on the field for years has been an absolute joke. They had Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, and still didn’t make it to the postseason. Just a thought, but if you have two of the best players in the sport, how in the world does the front office fail to build around them? Reality is, Moreno was completely out of line in what he said about the fans not prioritizing winning in a recent interview.

They want affordability,” Moreno said to reporters. “They want safety, and they want a good experience when they come to the ballpark. Believe it or not, winning is not in their top five.”

This quote confirms what we’ve all known: Moreno is extremely tone-deaf. To say the fans don’t prioritize winning is crazy, given their unwavering support even when the team isn’t performing on the field. The Angels haven’t made the playoffs since 2014, and fans have been desperate to return to October for over a decade.

Angels Aren’t Going Anywhere

After another weird offseason, the Angels are set to once again miss the playoffs and sit in the middle of the pack when it comes to the standings. Trout is past his prime and can’t stay healthy, and there is no one else on the roster capable of putting the team on their back. Instead of committing to fully rebuilding, the Angels will trot out a team they know isn’t good enough to win anything.

Moreno should be grateful that the fans are even invested in this team. He has wasted one of the best talents this game has ever seen and couldn’t even win when Ohtani, the best player in MLB history, was on the team for years. Until he sells the team and the approach from the front office changes, the Angels’ playoff drought will be stuck in purgatory.

It’s Time To Rebuild

The Angels are in desperate need of a full teardown to try to acquire young talent. They haven’t drafted well in years past because they haven’t had high draft picks and have rushed their prospects to the major leagues. It’s time to accept the fact that Trout will not win anything in his time with the Angels, and it’ll go down as one of the biggest failures in baseball history.

Trying to throw money at veterans to piece together the roster hasn’t worked, and never will. It was a dumb formula from the beginning, and the Angels are paying the price for it now. Unless Moreno sells the team, nothing will change because he believes the team is perfectly fine where it is.
