Team USA vs Brazil 2026 WBC Preview: Pitching Matchup, Odds, Prediction
Team USA opens pool play in the World Baseball Classic against Brazil in Pool B with hopes of starting the tournament on the right track. The vaunted roster the United States has assembled is arguably the strongest and deepest of any team, and this matchup will present an appetizing opportunity for the U.S. to flex its muscle against what is considered an inferior opponent.
While the U.S. is the favorite to leave its first WBC game with a win, Brazil is starting to develop into a better squad; it finished with a silver medal at the 2023 Pan American Games and boasts a young, albeit inexperienced, roster looking to have a respectable showing in the WBC. Team USA and Brazil are scheduled to meet on Friday, 8 ET on FOX in Houston.
Pitching Matchup
San Francisco Giants pitcher Logan Webb will start Friday’s game. Webb had a splendid 2025 season for the Giants, posting a 15-11 record with a 3.22 ERA, earning his second consecutive MLB All-Star Game appearance.
Meanwhile, Brazil has yet to name a starting pitcher. Some of the pitchers on the roster include 17-year-old prospect Joseph Contreras, the son of retired MLB pitcher José Contreras, and 40-year-old Tiago da Silva, who has experience pitching in the WBC.
Odds
Team USA is a prohibitive favorite to defeat Brazil according to DraftKings, and this should come as no surprise. Comparing the U.S. roster to Brazil’s is like comparing a Tiger to a house cat.
The Red, White, and Blue have the shortest odds to advance to the knockout stages as the winner of Pool B at -800. Mexico is a distant second at +600, followed by Italy at +2200. Brazil is tied with Great Britain for the longest odds at +5000.
Draft Kings lists the U.S. (-110) as the most likely squad to claim the WBC championship, then the Dominican Republic (+340), and then Japan (+380), which won the last WBC three years ago.
Prediction
Brazil realistically has no chance of defeating Team USA. The Brazilians’ roster, from their pitching staff to their lineup, is far too inexperienced to stand toe-to-toe with the United States; it lacks the requisite collection of MLB players. Expect the U.S. to pounce early and often en route to a comfortable victory.
