Isaiah McDuffie’s Honest Comments Reveal What’s Holding the Packers Back
Green Bay Packers linebacker Isaiah McDuffie recently signed a contract extension that keeps him with the franchise through the 2027 season, and his latest comments show he’s thinking about much more than personal success.
Speaking with NFL Network’s The Insiders, McDuffie made it clear that he wants to finish what the Packers have been building for years: a Super Bowl championship.
“I love Green Bay. They’ve been very good to me,” McDuffie said. “It’s a very special place, and at the end of the day I see myself wanting to stay there and hopefully win a Super Bowl with this team.”
For a player who arrived as a sixth-round pick in 2021 and had to fight for every opportunity, the comments carry extra weight.
Isaiah McDuffie Believes Green Bay Has Championship Talent

The most interesting part of Isaiah McDuffie’s interview wasn’t his commitment to Green Bay. It was his confidence that the Packers already have everything necessary to compete for a title.
“I think we’ve got everything we need,” McDuffie said.
That’s a bold statement considering Green Bay has reached the playoffs four times during McDuffie’s career but has managed only one postseason victory during that span.
The linebacker believes the issue isn’t talent. Instead, he pointed to a recurring problem that has haunted the Packers in recent seasons.
“It’s just finishing,” McDuffie explained. “Getting late in the season, just finishing those games when we are up on guys, just putting the nail in the coffin.”
Packers’ Late-Season Collapse Still Looms Large
McDuffie’s comments highlight a painful reality for Green Bay. Last season unraveled in dramatic fashion. The Packers lost five consecutive games to close the year, including a shocking Wild Card defeat after blowing a 21-3 halftime lead against the Chicago Bears.
The collapse looked eerily similar to the previous season, when Green Bay also stumbled late and lost its final three contests.
For a roster loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, those failures have become increasingly frustrating.
That’s why McDuffie’s comments are notable. From his perspective, the Packers don’t need a dramatic roster overhaul. They simply need to learn how to close out games when opportunities present themselves.
Confidence Remains High Despite Micah Parsons’ Injury
Green Bay will face an immediate challenge to begin the 2026 season.
Star pass rusher Micah Parsons is expected to miss time while recovering from a torn ACL and meniscus procedure suffered late last year. Losing one of the NFL’s premier defensive players would be a major concern for most teams. McDuffie isn’t worried.
“It’s all hands on deck,” he said. “There’s a job to be done at the end of the day. There’s an expectation to produce and cause havoc and get after the quarterback.”
The veteran linebacker added that he expects Green Bay’s defensive depth to step up while Parsons works his way back.
“We have a lot of great guys in that room, and I see there’s going to be no drop-off there.”
That’s an optimistic outlook considering the Packers will likely rely on younger pass rushers such as Lukas Van Ness, Brenton Cox, Barryn Sorrell, and rookie Dani Dennis-Sutton early in the season.
Jonathan Gannon Already Making an Impression
Another major storyline for Green Bay is the arrival of new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.
After spending the past three seasons as the Arizona Cardinals’ head coach, Gannon was brought in to lead the Green Bay Packers defense. McDuffie sounded excited about what the veteran coach is bringing to the table.
“He’s great. He definitely brings a lot to the table,” McDuffie said.
McDuffie specifically pointed to Gannon’s leadership experience and energy, suggesting players have already bought into the new system.
Perhaps most intriguing was McDuffie’s hint that Green Bay’s defense could look noticeably different this season.
“We’re going to do some cool things,” he said. “It’s gonna look a little different, but it’s going to be fun to watch us.”
McDuffie Emerges as a Key Voice in Green Bay
While stars like Jordan Love, Micah Parsons, and Xavier McKinney often grab the headlines, McDuffie continues to be one of the Packers’ most important under-the-radar contributors.
He’s started 37 games over the past three seasons and has averaged more than 90 tackles per year during that span while continuing to play a significant role on special teams.
His latest comments also show why the organization valued him enough to sign an extension.
Isaiah McDuffie isn’t making excuses for Green Bay’s shortcomings. Instead, he’s identifying the team’s biggest weakness and expressing confidence that it can be corrected.
As training camp approaches, his message is simple: the Packers already have the talent to compete for a Super Bowl. Now they just need to prove they can finish the job when it matters most.
