NFL Analyst Praises Green Bay Packers Underrated 2026 Draft Class

Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutekunst talks 2026 NFL Draft

The Green Bay Packers entered the 2026 NFL Draft without a first-round pick after trading significant draft capital for superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons. Even so, one NFL analyst believes Green Bay still managed to put together one of the most underrated draft classes in the league.

While much of the attention surrounding the Packers’ offseason has centered on the blockbuster Parsons trade, Green Bay’s actual draft haul is beginning to earn praise from analysts who believe the team quietly added several impactful players.

NFL Analyst Praises Green Bay Packers’ 2026 NFL Draft Class

Bleacher Report draft analyst Justin Melo recently named the Packers among the teams that assembled draft classes “far better than anyone wants to admit.”

“The Green Bay Packers didn’t have a first-round pick,” Melo wrote. “They included it in a package for superstar EDGE Micah Parsons. They don’t regret that decision despite Parsons’ ACL tear. You always take advantage of an opportunity to acquire rare talents like Parsons.”

Melo also highlighted several individual picks that could become important contributors for Green Bay moving forward.

“Despite lacking a top-32 selection, the Packers strung together a quality draft,” Melo added. “Cornerback Brandon Cisse is supremely athletic at a position of need. Chris McClellan is so underrated and will play a notable role. Dani Dennis-Sutton is a high-floor EDGE, and late-round offensive lineman Jager Burton has terrific versatility.”

Packers Addressed Key Needs Throughout the Draft

One of the biggest takeaways from Green Bay’s 2026 draft strategy was how focused the organization appeared on filling roster needs while still finding value. Unlike some previous Packers drafts that emphasized long-term upside and athletic traits above all else, this year’s class looked far more balanced and practical.

The Packers added depth at cornerback, edge rusher, and along the offensive line, all positions that either needed immediate reinforcements or could become major priorities in the near future.

Brandon Cisse gives Green Bay another athletic defensive back option in a secondary that continues to evolve, while Dani Dennis-Sutton provides edge-rushing depth behind Micah Parsons.

Meanwhile, Chris McClellan has already emerged as one of the more intriguing under-the-radar defensive linemen from the class, and Jager Burton offers the type of offensive line versatility the Packers have historically valued.

Packers’ Front Office Philosophy Appeared Different in 2026

This draft also felt noticeably different from some of Green Bay’s previous draft approaches.

Much of that could stem from the growing influence of vice president of player personnel Milt Hendrickson, who replaced Jon-Eric Sullivan and brought experience from the Baltimore Ravens organization. Baltimore has long been viewed as one of the NFL’s best drafting teams because of its ability to consistently identify value while staying aligned with consensus draft boards.

Green Bay’s 2026 draft class reflected a similar philosophy. Outside of the team’s aggressive move up in the sixth round to select kicker Trey Smack, a decision that ultimately led to the release of veteran kicker Brandon McManus, the Packers largely stayed patient and selected players many analysts believed matched their draft range.

Why the Packers Need This Draft Class to Succeed

The importance of this draft class goes beyond simply adding depth. The Packers are entering a period where several major contracts are shaping the roster financially. Jordan Love, Micah Parsons, Xavier McKinney, Aaron Banks, Zach Tom, and now Christian Watson are all tied to significant deals, while players like Tucker Kraft in line for an extension.

Because of that, Green Bay needs affordable young contributors on rookie contracts to emerge across the roster. That reality makes hitting on middle-round draft picks even more important moving forward.

Even without a first-round pick, the Packers may have positioned themselves well for both the short-term and long-term future if this class develops the way analysts expect.

While the Micah Parsons trade will always headline Green Bay’s offseason, the Packers’ underrated 2026 draft class could end up becoming one of the more important storylines for the franchise in the years ahead.
