Eagles Jalen Hurts Breaks Silence On AJ Brown Trade

The Philadelphia Eagles officially entered a new era this offseason after trading star wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots, and quarterback Jalen Hurts is already making it clear that his attention is firmly on the future.

Speaking publicly about the blockbuster move for the first time since it became official, Hurts took a measured and professional approach when discussing his former teammate.

“You come into it and you have a sense of pride in how it began and definitely what we were able to accomplish,” Hurts said. “Nothing can take that away. For the great things that we did, now it’s time to focus on achieving great things with this new iteration of the team.”

Rather than diving into the details surrounding Brown’s departure or the reported tension between the two stars, Hurts largely kept his comments centered on moving forward.

Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown arrived in Philadelphia at nearly the same time and quickly became one of the NFL’s most productive quarterback-receiver duos.

Together, they helped lead the Eagles to four consecutive playoff appearances, two Super Bowl trips, and one championship. Brown posted some of the best seasons of his career catching passes from Hurts, including back-to-back 1,400-yard campaigns in 2022 and 2023.

The connection between the two players helped transform Philadelphia into one of the top contenders in the NFC over the last several years. However, cracks eventually began to show.

Brown openly voiced frustration with the Eagles’ passing offense over the last season and reportedly wanted a fresh start elsewhere. Philadelphia ultimately traded him to New England in exchange for a future first-round pick and a fifth-round selection.

Hurts Refuses to Dwell on Relationship Questions

Recent comments from Brown suggested the relationship between the former teammates had changed, although the receiver emphasized there was still “a lot of love” between them. Hurts did not engage much with those discussions during minicamp.

“I’m not in a place to challenge anyone’s perspective on anything,” Hurts said. “That’s where I am. I have always been focused on the collective.”

The quarterback’s comments reflected the same leadership style Eagles fans have come to expect from him throughout his career. Rather than fueling offseason drama, Hurts repeatedly pointed back toward team goals and preparation for the upcoming season.

Eagles Begin New Offensive Era Under Sean Mannion

Philadelphia is also dealing with major offensive changes beyond the Brown trade. The Eagles are currently installing a new offensive system under coordinator Sean Mannion, and Hurts acknowledged there have been growing pains during minicamp practices.

Despite some inconsistencies in the passing game early in the offseason program, Hurts expressed optimism about where the offense is heading.

“I thought it was a really good spring,” Hurts said. “Being able to onboard another new system and put everything together, lay the foundation, I’m encouraged by that.”

For now, the Eagles appear focused on turning the page after one of the biggest trades of the NFL offseason, and Hurts is clearly leading that mindset.
