Catholic University 2026 Winter Track Has Great Landmark Conference Championship

Feb. 28 Catholic University occupies 2 spots on Men's Mile winner's Podium.

Catholic University competed in the Landmark Conference Championship on February 28. They finished third in the men’s and women’s competitions. However, their success was punctuated by several conference championships.

The Catholic University track and field team had an outstanding winter track season. The fact that many of the athletes who won conference championships were underclassmen bodes well for the Cardinals in the future. Do you think the Cardinals will be as successful in the spring track season?

Catholic University 2026 Winter Track at Landmark Conference Championships

Catholic University finished third for both the men and the women in the Landmark Conference championship. What was even more special was that several underclassmen, even freshmen, won conference championships.

Men’s Results

The men’s results for the Catholic University Track and Field team at the Landmark Conference Championships were eye-watering. Freshman Michael Brunet may have had the greatest performance of anyone at the meet. He recorded a meet record time of 4:17.56 in the mile, which was a personal record as well. Brunet also finished third in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:46.51.

The team earned two podium finishes in the 800-meter race, with senior Kendrick DuPree finishing second and sophomore Peter Winter finishing third. Sophomore Gus Howard also finished fourth. Calvin Hernandez earned a conference championship with a time of 6.96 seconds. His time was a personal best and is the second fastest time in Cardinal History.

The Catholic University 4 x 400m relay won the conference championship with a time of 3:25.15. The team was comprised of Sean Owens, Peter Winter, Emmanuel Olarewaju, and DuPree. Their time was the third-best in school history.

Finally, sophomore Sean Owens placed third in the 400-meter race with his new personal best of 50.94. This was also the third fastest time in school history. Owens has definitely peaked at the right time.

In the High Jump, freshman Drew Madden and sophomore Quinn Brubaker placed first and second. Madden won the event with a mark of 1.90 meters while Brubaker recorded his personal best mark of 1.87 meters to place second. Senior Nicholas Chang finished second in the triple jump with a personal best distance of 13.08 meters. His jump was the sixth- longest in program history.

Women’s Results

If it is possible, the news was even better for the Catholic University women. Freshman Olivia Sobkowicz started the meet for the Cardinals, taking first place in the 5000 meters, breaking the meet record with a time of 17:41.01. Laurel McMahon took fourth in the event, clocking a time of 18:15.93.

Both were in the 3000-meter race later in the day, with McMahon recording a personal best time of 10:28.69 to race to a second-place finish, while Sobkowicz was just behind her in fourth with a time of 10:34.57.

The Cardinals won the conference championship in the 4000-meter relay. The team was comprised of Mya Sampong, Riley Walsh, Kate Hannan, and Erin Roche. In the 800 meter, Roche finished fifth, while Freshman Bridgid Cavanaugh was in seventh.

Like the men, the Catholic University women also finished first in the 4 x 400 relay with a time of 4:04.31. The team consisted of Mia McConnell, Brigid Byrnes, Zoey Brown, and Alicia Vo.

The finished second in the 4 x 200 Relay, with a team of Erin Buckley, Felicity Giampietro, Ainsley Reisman, and Kortney Clipper, with a time of 1:47.70.

Lauryn Pearson finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a new personal best of 9.518 seconds. That is the fourth-best time in school history. Junior Edith Tomasek had a personal best time of 9.519.

In the field events for the women’s Catholic University, they also did well. In the high jump, Tomasek was third with a personal best height of 1.52 meters. The sixth-highest jump in school history. Pearson was sixth, and Pauline Kennedy, a freshman, earned her personal best with a jump of 1.37 meters.

Chloe Dodd jumped to a third-place finish with a personal best height of 3.05 meters in the pole vault. Tomasek also did well in the triple jump with a personal best distance of 10.65 meters to finish fourth. That is the third-best jump in school history. Sophomore Kate Quashne had a personal best 10.13 meters and moved up to fifth in program history.

The Cardinal women also did well in the throwing events. Maggie McNulty was eighth overall in the weight throw with a distance of 13.29 meters. Bethany Riddle threw a personal best 11.75 meters. In the shot put, Caroline Welsh threw 10.76 meters, and McNulty threw 9.73 meters. Kennedy reached 9.17 meters, and Riddle threw 9.01 meters.

All in all, the conference championships were good for Catholic University. Not only did Cardinal athletes win a bunch of conference championships, but they also set several personal bests. Since many of the star athletes were underclassmen, there is optimism for the future of track and field at the university.
