Catholic University Successful In First Track Meet Of Season
Catholic University had a successful first meet of the spring track season on March 20, 2026. It turned out to be a beautiful first day of spring in Richmond, Virginia. The University of Richmond, which hosted this meet, is a Division I team, so the competition was very good.

Catholic University has a Successful Spring 2026 Debut
Catholic University had a great start to the spring track season yesterday at the University of Richmond. There were great performances by both the men and women.
For the men, the highlights on the sunsplahed day included freshman Tim Brown recording a 10:19:48 in the steeplechase. There were seven male athletes in the 1500-meter race. Joey Locke, Peter Winter, David Strango, Tim Sweeney, Shane Waring, Joshua Leon, and Matthew McCormick all had great times, particularly Winter.
In the 110-meter hurdles, freshman Drew Madden and Gabe Devaney both competed. Maddon had the seventh fastest time in program history. Four Catholic University men were running in the 400-meter race. Marco Indelicato, Emmanuel Olarewaju, Gabe Stypul, and Colin Matthews all ran and finished in that order.
Calvin Hernandez ran very well in the 100-meter race, finishing in 9th place. Romell Randolph also ran. Hernandez was also the top Catholic University finisher in the 200 meters. Olarewaju, Matthews, and Stypul all ran. In the 800-meter race, Waring and Strango ran. They both also ran in the 1500-meter race.
Michael Brunet had the 10th-fastest time in program history in the 5000-meter race. Daniel Ponciano and Richard Harrington also raced. The 4×400 team finished fourth. The team was comprised of Maddon, Winter, Sean Owens, and Devaney.
In the field events, Warren Gillis, Ethan Carmichael, and Benjamin Warr all threw the discus. Max Lindung finished in third place in the javelin. Caden Lopez and James Varellas also threw well. There were four Catholic University athletes in the Long Jump. Adrian Villatoro, Brandon Hancock, Anthony Escuadro, and Nicholas Chang.
For the women on the track, the results were just as impressive. Chronologically, the women’s races started with the 4×100 sprint. The team of Erin Buckley, Sarah Schumacher, Ainsley Reisman, and Kortney Clipper got the seventh-best time in program history.
Olivia Sobkowicz was in the 1500-meter race, and so were Laurel McMahon, Alexa Grassi, and Sara Roberts.
In the 100m hurdles, Edith Tomasek, Lauryn Pearson, Rachel Sprauer, Corina Colmenares Bittar, and Pauline Kennedy all raced. Pearson was the top finisher for Catholic University. In the 400-meter race, Brigid Byrnes, Mia McConnell, Alicia Vo, Riley Walsh, and Kate Hannan all competed. Tomasek had the ninth fastest time in program history.
The 100-meter race featured seven Catholic University runners. Clipper, Buckley, Reisman, Schumacher, Felicity Giampietro, Emily McDermond, and Catalina Zumbado all ran. In the 800-meter race, Kennedy was the only Catholic University runner.
In the 400-meter hurdles, there were two Cardinal runners, Sprauer and Corina Colmenares Bittar. In the 200-meter race, there were nine runners from Catholic University. Clipper had the ninth-best program time.
In the 5000-meter race, Isabel Doran and Margaret Glenn competed. The 4×400 relay team was made up of McConnell, Walsh, Vo, and Sprauer.
In the field events, Bethany Riddle threw the discus, as did Maggie McNulty and Kaelyn Boodlal. Kate Quashne got a new personal best in the triple jump, which was also the third-best distance in program history. Tomasek and Vo also competed.
Quashne got the 10th-best distance in program history. Driscoll and Oscar also jumped. In the pole vault, Chloe Dodd was the third-best freshman in program history. Pearson and Tomasek competed in the high jump. In the javelin, McNulty was second overall, was the top DIII athlete, and had the fourth-best throw in program history. Boodlal also threw in this event.
Parting Shot
On March 28, Catholic University will compete in the Seahawk Invitational in St. Mary’s, Maryland, at 9 a.m. This meet was a good showing for the Cardinals, and a good way to start the spring season. Cross Country and Track and Field coach Steve Rahn said, “It was a great season opener. I am looking forward to the next few months as they continue to progress.”
