Chicago Bears Montez Sweat Earns NFL Top 100 Honors, Proving He Is Still Elite
The Chicago Bears are still searching for the perfect complement opposite Montez Sweat, but one thing is clear heading into the 2026 season: the veteran edge rusher continues to have the respect of players around the league.
Sweat checked in at No. 91 on the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2026, a recognition that carries more weight than many offseason rankings because it is voted on by fellow NFL players.
Chicago Bears Montez Sweat Clocks In At No. 91
Every offseason brings countless lists ranking the league’s best players, but the NFL Top 100 stands apart because it comes directly from the players themselves.
That means the men lining up across from Sweat every Sunday still view him as one of the NFL’s premier defensive playmakers.
For pass rushers especially, peer recognition matters. Offensive tackles, quarterbacks, and fellow defenders know firsthand how difficult it is to deal with players capable of disrupting games from the edge.
The Bears Still Need Help Up Front
While Sweat’s inclusion on the list is well deserved, it also highlights one of Chicago’s biggest remaining needs.
The Bears have spent much of the offseason searching for another edge rusher who can consistently win one-on-one matchups opposite Sweat. Without another legitimate threat, offenses can devote extra attention to slowing him down.
Finding that running mate remains one of the biggest priorities before the regular season begins.
Dennis Allen’s Defense Starts With Sweat
This will be Sweat’s second season working in defensive coordinator Dennis Allen’s system, giving him valuable experience that many of his teammates are still developing.
As one of the longest-tenured veterans on Chicago’s defense, Sweat is expected to be more than just the team’s top pass rusher. He’ll also serve as one of the leaders responsible for helping everyone else get comfortable in Allen’s scheme.
That familiarity should allow the Bears to be more aggressive defensively in 2026.
Respect is Nice, but Production Matters
Being named one of the NFL’s Top 100 players is a tremendous honor, but the Bears ultimately need more than recognition.
Chicago is counting on Sweat to produce double-digit sacks, generate consistent pressure, and elevate a defense that has the talent to become one of the better units in the NFC.
The respect from his peers confirms what many around the league already believe. Now it’s up to Sweat to turn that recognition into another productive season and help lead the Bears back into playoff contention.
