Caleb Williams Embraces Bears’ Brutal 2026 Schedule With Bold Message
The Chicago Bears and Caleb Williams are entering the 2026 season with sky-high expectations after Year 1 of the Ben Johnson era ended with an NFC North title. But despite the success, many around the league believe the Bears could face regression because of one major factor: their schedule.
Chicago is set to face what is currently viewed as the toughest schedule in the NFL based on opponent win percentage from the previous season. While those projections often change dramatically throughout the year, there is no question that the Bears will be tested early and often in 2026. Quarterback Caleb Williams, however, doesn’t seem intimidated in the slightest.
Caleb Williams Sends Strong Message About Bears’ 2026 Schedule

Williams recently appeared on the “New Heights” podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, where the discussion eventually shifted toward Chicago’s difficult road ahead.
Instead of showing concern, the Bears quarterback sounded energized by the challenge.
“We’ve got a bunch of prime time games. It’s so-called the hardest schedule,” Williams said. “We had the second-hardest last year.”
“We’re excited. We don’t back down from no challenge. We want everybody to know that going to the playoffs, and things like that, is in our future… it’s going to be a consistent thing for us.”
“It starts now, and finishes in February.”
That mentality is exactly what Bears fans want to hear from the face of the franchise.
Caleb Williams and the Bears Already Faced a Difficult Schedule in 2025
While the 2026 schedule looks intimidating on paper, Williams made an important point indirectly: the Bears dealt with something similar last season.
Chicago faced several powerhouse teams throughout 2025, including multiple opponents that had won at least 11 games the year before. Much of that difficulty came from the NFC North itself, which remains one of the toughest divisions in football.
The Bears also battled playoff-caliber teams outside the division and still managed to emerge with a division title under first-year head coach Ben Johnson.
That experience could prove valuable in 2026.
NFL Schedules Rarely Look the Same by Midseason
One important thing to remember about NFL schedules is how quickly perceptions change. Teams that appear dominant during the offseason often regress, while others unexpectedly emerge as contenders. Injuries, coaching changes, roster turnover, and quarterback play can completely reshape the league within a matter of weeks.
A year ago, several teams on Chicago’s schedule looked terrifying entering the season. By the middle of the year, though, some of those same opponents had fallen back to the pack. That’s why Williams’ mindset matters.
Rather than worrying about projections in June, the Bears are focused on building a team capable of handling whatever challenges arise throughout the season.
Bears Enter 2026 With Bigger Expectations
The expectations surrounding Chicago are different now. The Bears are no longer viewed as a rebuilding team hoping to compete. After winning the NFC North and making a playoff push under Ben Johnson, the franchise is now expected to contend consistently.
That means difficult schedules come with the territory. Chicago also appears poised to become one of the NFL’s premier prime-time attractions thanks to Williams’ rise into stardom. His recent selection as the cover athlete for Madden NFL 27 only added to the growing attention surrounding the franchise.
If the Bears want to establish themselves as legitimate Super Bowl contenders, they will eventually have to prove they can consistently beat elite opponents anyway. Judging by Williams’ comments, the Bears are more than ready to embrace that challenge.
