Al Horford Signs New Deal With Warriors; Returning For 20th NBA Season
The Golden State Warriors are bringing back one of their most respected veterans, as Al Horford has reportedly agreed to a new contract that will keep him in the Bay Area for his 20th NBA season.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Horford is declining his $6 million player option and signing a new two-year, $14 million deal with Golden State. The move ensures the Warriors retain an experienced frontcourt presence as they continue building around Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler.
Al Horford Believes Warriors Can Take Another Step Forward

After spending a season getting comfortable within Steve Kerr’s system, Al Horford made it clear he believes the Golden State Warriors still have unfinished business.
Speaking with ESPN, Horford pointed to continuity and improved health as reasons for optimism heading into next season.
“Me being here a year, being acclimated with Steve Kerr, with Steph, with everybody else, I feel like we can continue to take steps forward and have a better season,” Horford said.
The veteran big man also emphasized how important health will be for Golden State’s championship hopes. Injuries to key players, including Curry and Jimmy Butler, played a major role in preventing the Warriors from reaching their full potential last season.
Horford believes a healthier roster could make the Warriors a serious contender in the Western Conference.
Warriors Value More Than Just Horford’s Production
While Horford’s on-court numbers remain solid, his impact extends well beyond the stat sheet.
The 39-year-old averaged 8.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and shot 36.1 percent from three-point range in 43 games last season. However, his leadership and experience have become just as valuable as his production.
Golden State has leaned heavily on veteran voices throughout its championship era, and Horford fits that culture perfectly. His ability to mentor younger players while providing reliable minutes in the frontcourt makes him an important piece for a team still chasing another title.
The Warriors also lack significant size, making Horford’s return even more important as they prepare for the 2026-27 season.
Historic Milestone Awaits Horford
Horford’s new contract will allow him to join one of the most exclusive groups in NBA history. The veteran forward will become just the 13th player ever to reach a 20th NBA season, joining legends such as LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Horford admitted the accomplishment is difficult to fully process, but remains grateful for the opportunity to continue playing at a high level.
For the Warriors, bringing him back is about more than nostalgia. Horford still provides value on both ends of the floor, and his return gives Golden State another trusted veteran as it looks to make one more championship push with its aging core.
